i think the cost of protection is being spun by the pirates in this scam. what might be a more workable proposal is for every SHIPS INSURANCE company to require ship protection insurance in their policies. the effect would be immediate. sure we would all end up paying for it in ocean transport costs, but at least each ship would have the armed response to repel the pirates. the insurance pool would also fund
private responses to the land side ‘safe harbors’ from which the pirates operate. as the don’t tread on me message worked it’s way through the dead and dying pirate communites, a gradual idea to chanage their careers would become more obvious to them. these guys only think they are safe because the political system hasn’t allowed a military solution to be approved.
