No man like her has ever occupied a prominent cabinet post.
But President Obama, in an effort to display his solidarity with gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders has appointed Amanda Simpson to serve as a Senior Technical Advisor at the Department of Commerce.
“I’m truly honored to have received this appointment and am eager and excited about this opportunity that is before me. And at the same time, as one of the first transgender presidential appointees to the federal government, I hope that I will soon be one of hundreds, and that this appointment opens future opportunities for many others,” Ms. Simpson gushed.
Ms. Simpson was formerly Mitchell Simpson, a test pilot and worked for Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, Arizona.
Eight years ago, he underwent a surgical procedure to remove his male sex organs and his Adam’s Apple. At the same time, he received massive injections of testosterone and received breast implants.
Simpson declined to elaborate on the medical procedures she undertook to become a woman but explained, "I am much more comfortable who I am today than what I was before. I struggled with this my whole life."

This guy is going to fit right in to an administration that is known for saying goofy and absurd things. It still sounds as though he is not fully comfortable with who he is yet. I wonder what he wants to be now.

Agreed, with a couple of caveats: 1) that Simpson is qualified for the post; and 2) that "being transgendered" was not part of the criteria by which she was chosen.
Given her background, she's probably technically qualified; however, I'm a bit concerned about the second one.
This is only the vanguard of a new, even more diverse series of government posts. A kleptomaniac will be put in charge of the treasury (and no one will notice the difference), an anorexic will be added to the office of the Surgeon General, and the ATF will be headed by a man suffering from schizophrenia - he’ll do a great job running the agency when he’s not hiding under his bed trying to avoid the reanimated corpse of Hitler which he believes was brought back to life by the CIA.
