Upon thinking of someone using smokeless tobacco, you may immediately think: a vile, disgusting habit with no redeeming social value. That, it turns out, is only half-true. It may be vile and disgusting with a good deal of social value.
Not in an absolute sense. Dipping snuff or chewing tobacco can lead to nicotine addiction, gum disease and even oral cancer, while scaring off potential employers and romantic partners in droves. But in relative terms -- relative to smoking -- it could be a boon to individual and public health. Any smoker who gives up cigarettes for snuff is clearly doing his or her body a favor.
Thats because most of the danger from tobacco actually comes from setting it afire and inhaling the smoke. Omitting that step makes a huge difference. A 2002 report by Britains Royal College of Physicians found that the consumption of non-combustible tobacco is of the order of 10-1,000 times less hazardous than smoking, depending on the product. The American Council on Science and Health puts the overall health risk at about 2 percent of that from sucking on a cancer stick.
The implications are obvious: The best thing a nicotine fiend can do is quit tobacco entirely. For the 46 million Americans who have not been able to follow that advice -- a number that has stubbornly refused to shrink -- the next best thing is to use the kind of tobacco that doesnt require incineration. The change would also be a blessing to nonsmokers, who would no longer have to put up with noxious fumes and discarded butts.

But then, you have to put up with their SPITTING!
I’ll take a smoker over a person who spits constantly - hands down!
What if they swallow?
Swedish snus is some good stuff; the American version Snus? not so much.
Swedish snus can be purchased online.
And there’s no need to spit at all...very discrete.
Diseased Queers with HIV having unprotected back door sex = HIP & AVANT-GUARDE
(health costs no object and promotes diversity in young minds)
The great value of smokeless tobacco actually comes from the spitting.
This makes it the perfect drug for the sarcastic and cynical. The level of salivation and expectoration jumps when being talked at by a liberal, especially one who is disgusted by spitting.
“Obama is a great president!”
“He is one of...no, he *is* our greatest president, ever!”
“He is like...a god...to me!”
“Obamacare is so wonderful! It will save money and give health care to everyone fairly! And save the environment!”
(Okay, at this point, the tobacco chewer is probably trombone vomiting, but you get the point.)
Love all the conservatives who buy all the government lies brought to them by the same government and government sponsored “scientists” (read shills) that brought them global warming.
The entire “danger-of-smoking” lie is just another big fat power-and-money grabbing fraud, just like global warming. There is no more science in it then there is in the entire climate-change scandal.
If you do not like to smoke, don’t. But why do so-called conservatives keep repeating the damn government lies?
Among the benefits smoking are the following:
1. Improves and prevents Parkinson’s disease.
2. “Reduced MAO B (monoamine oxidase) enzyme (smokers in their 60s have MAO B of nonsmokers in their 20s); also here). Lowering of MAO B is the Holy Grail of life-extension.”
3. “Glutathione (chief antioxidant in human body) and catalase (another key antioxidant which neutralizes alcohol damage, cyanide poisoning, etc.) doubled in smokers.” In addition to glutathione, which is the body’s master antioxidant and metal detoxifier, many other lesser antioxidants and detoxifiers are similarly strengthened.
4. “Nicotine suppresses cell death of neurons (it also promotes vascular growth factor, e.g. growth and branching of capillaries)”
5. Reduces osteo-athritis (up to threefold)
6. Reduces incidence of colorectal cancer in women
7. People who smoke fare better than nonsmokers when exposed to occupational hazards
8. Reduces schizophrenia symptoms
9. Reduces incidence of Alzheimer’s and other degenerative diseases
10. Smoking is protective against thyroid cancer
11. Severe gum recession, less of a risk for smokers
12. Children of smokers have lower odds for suffering from allergic rhino-conjunctivitis, allergic asthma, atopic eczema and food allergy
13. Nicotine stops the growth of tuberculosis
14. Smoking prevents a rare skin cancer
15. Smoking reduces the risk of breast cancer
16. Nicotine is therpeutic in treatment of ulcerative colitis
Many of the same people who think it is perfectly acceptable for various levels of government to strip smokers of their rights to use a legal product go into an apolectic fit when foreign terrorists and illegal combatants outside America’s borders are not awarded the full spectrum of “constitutional rights” including free attorneys.
apolectic = apoplectic

To this day, I can't even look at a pack of Redman without getting queasy.
The most important part of having a happy work environment when some of the employees chew and have "spit cups" is that they DO NOT try to hide the fact...
I was shooting at a local indoor range, and only one of the employees chewed tobacco. In order not to "gross out" the other employees or customers, he would occasionally use a fast food soda cup as his "spit cup," leaving the lid on and spitting into the straw. Well, one day during the lunch rush, he left the cup on the counter, and another employee mistook this guy's spit cup for his own tasty soft drink. I never did learn why he didn't notice that his drink was warm. I don't think I need to continue, do I?
theres nothing like a good old chew of tobacco,,hmm, hmmm,AND the best part is spitting,,geesh ,if you are a good spitter, you can become famous at tobacco spitting contests.
WOW! THIS was the wrong thread to read as I ate breakfast.
Here in Italy, the fact that cigarette packs and tobacco tins are labeled with "Il fumo uccide" (smoking kills) in large black-on-white letters seems to not deter many folks.
But the real thing that convinced me to not worry as much is that my grandfather smoked a pack a day unfiltered for 70 years and only finally quit when a small stroke forced him to quit at 95 - and only then because you aren't allowed to smoke in the hospital. Three years later, he's still going strong...
“I won’t feel nearly as bad the next time I light up the pipe.”
Good. That alone should improve your health—or at least your well being.
Congratulations to your Dad. My whole family on my fathers side all lived into their nineties, and all smoked heavily. My grandfather was a Pharmicist, chain smoked unfilered cigarettes, sometime two at a time when he forgot where he left the last one. Came home from work one day and lay down for nap. Never woke up. He was 93.
I laugh that so many people think chewing is gross. I always say it is no different than tea. It is ground up leaves for crying out loud.
Every once in a while I run into one of those maroons that tries to tell me they put glass in chew. I find this helpful, as it lets me know I am dealing with a dupe that will believe anything.
Then they QUICKLY get sick.
Tobacco products do not drive up health costs. If everybody smoked healths costs would be minimized greatly. People will live a lot fewer years and won’t be a drain on the system in the later years.
