As election year begins, I am pleased to announce that we surpassed our end-of-the-year fundraising goal. In less than two months, we raised over $62,000, and we finished the year with over $60,000 cash on hand. This is the most cash on hand that any Republican challenger to Jim Moran has ever had at this point in the election cycle.
I am humbled and grateful that so many of you have stepped forward to join our cause. This fantastic result demonstrates that our message of restoring fiscal responsibility to Washington, aggressively prosecuting the war on terror, and ending the culture of corruption in Congress where campaign contributions are traded for earmarks is resonating.
However, this is no time for resting on our laurels. Rather, we must keep our momentum going. In particular, we need to begin mobilizing a grass-roots organization to spread our message across the 8th District and to continue amassing the resources necessary to run an aggressive campaign. As a result, the exploratory phase of our effort will be ending shortly, and soon I will be making a major announcement that will launch the next phase of our campaign. So stay tuned . . .

Hmm... this is interesting. Berry seems to have strong credentials: Yale graduate, clerking for Thomas and Silberman, worked on Patriot Act, etc. He seems also an economic conservative. Two things that might be problematic for him: he lives with his partner Josh, and his picture on his website is not good...
He really is a nasty piece of work, and is constantly threatening to assault, or assaulting, people, for instance, he actually attacked a nine-year-old boy who touched his car outside of a recreation center, and whom Moron claimed was trying to "carjack" him.

I don’t care if he lives with the Seven Dwarfs if he is an economic conservative, and can beat the Moron. He doesn’t appear to be a professional, chip-carrying gay guy. Neither do I care what he looks like. But, to tell the truth, he looks like most of the males on Capitol Hill and K Street. (No, Washington DC is not a pretty place). No better, no worse.

How many Republicans are running in the GOP primary to unseat Jim Moran? I met Patrick Murray and spoke with him briefly. http://www.murrayforcongress.com/ He seems like an attractive candidate to me.
A guy I grew up with is gay and absolutely opposes gay marriage, adoption, etc. He isn’t the type to go around telling people he’s gay or anything but just figured his friends should know.
I knew he was gay when we were teenagers because of his bizarre attraction to Joan Rivers and the whole lady Di thing.
Well, no. I don’t go around informing people that I am hetero, do you? Do you know anyone who does? Your friend sounds normal.
If he will do the right thing; he should be elected. If he is lying; get him out. I can understand since democraps have their tricks.
Conservative Republican Matthew Berry, whom I have known since law school and can vouch for his conservative bona fides, is seeking the GOP nomination for the 8th Congressional District of Virginia, which has been held by the bipolar, anti-Semitic, ultraliberal Democrat Jim Moran for over 20 years. The VA-08 is a Democrat district based out of Alexandria and Arlington and Fairfax Counties in Northern Virginia, having given President Bush only 38% in 2000 and 35% in 2004 and holding John McCain to a pathetic 30% in 2008. However, Moran’s personal baggage makes him an inviting target, especially in an environment as noxious to Democrats as what they’ll face in November 2010. If Jim Moran couldn’t get as much as 60% against an underfunded Republican candidate with the unfortunate last name of Cheney in 2004 (when John Kerry got 64% in the district and Dick Cheney was considered Darth Vader by Democrats), then he can certainly be brought down in 2010, his first election since 1998 in which he won’t have the benefit of a presidential or U.S. Senate race atop the ticket to motivate Democrats to vote.
A former lawclerk to such U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, Matthew Berry is a federalist and a believer in the limited government set forth in our Constitution. He recently served as the General Counsel of the Federal Communications Commission, and he’ll be an effective opponent to the unconstitutional “Fairness Doctrine” that President Obama wants to impose on talk radio. His website also makes clear that he’s opposed to limits on personal contributions to political campaigns as were approved under McCain-Feingold. Matthew also used to work for the Institute for Justice, perhaps the preeminent property-rights not-for-profit in the nation, and he disagrees with the Kelo Case and will support legislation to stop state and local governments from taking private property for sale to private developers. I was prepared to scold you for the comment about his picture, but, Wow. Oh, well. A pro-life constitutionalist. Good enough for my vote for Congress. Bishop, no. Congress, yes. Especially against Moran, the biggest embarrassment in a Congress with some very embarrassing people.
Well, even as a hetero male, I can see why you’d say that Patrick Murray is a more attractive candidate. Ha-ha. His stance on issues on his web page, though, seems to have only very boiler-plate, Bush-like, “safe” conservative positions. I’d like to see him come out boldly pro-life, like Berry, Brown, Cucinelli and McDonnell have done. Do you know anyone who might get him to swing for the fences instead of bunting?
I actually don’t have problem with him being gay. I was just pointing out that —like it or not— it might create a problem for him as he is running in Republican ticket. I don’t know the composition of the district, but I hope he can win. As for the picture, I still think his campaign will be served better if they find a better one for the banner. In political campaign, package sometimes is as important as content.
I would add a few things: Matthew is extremely intelligent and is a skilled and tenacious debater.
The problem is not being gay. It’s the track record of lying and trickery the gays that speak for gays have like any other agenda group.
You’ll be happy to learn that Matthew is getting new pictures taken for use on his website.
Those are excellent points. Moran would look foolish in a debate with Matthew Berry.
Matthew Berry is not a gay activist running as a shill for GLAAD, he’s a conservative Republican that happens to be gay.
In our congressional district, being gay won’t hurt him with either party, and in fact will make him more attractive to Dems. I agree they need to find a better picture. Should go to a professional and get a studio shot. Lighting can work wonders.
