Nevada Sen. John Ensign said Monday it is wrong for his fellow Republicans to call for the resignation of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid over racially insensitive comments he made about President Obama.
Reid has apologized to Obama since a new book quoted him describing Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign as a light-skinned African-American "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."
Ensign said Monday that Reid's apology was sincere and that the Nevada Democrat regretted how his comments were taken.
"I think we need to get away from this politics of gotcha," Ensign told KKOH radio in Reno.
"I don't think there's a person walking, certainly not a politician out there, that hasn't made comments they regret," he said. "When you make those comments, as long as you take responsibility for your comments and apologize for them, I think people should accept that."
Ensign said he was angered by how Democrats treated former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott, R-Miss., after he suggested the country might be better off if Strom Thurmond, who ran as a segregationist, would have won the presidency in 1948. Lott resigned shortly after he made the comments.
"Democrats were really wrong in what they did to Trent Lott, and we shouldn't do the same thing to Sen. Reid," Ensign said.

The thing is, Ensign, they’ll do it every time they have a chance. Perhaps you missed the name of the game: It’s called The Make Over of America to a Marxist state. If the demrats achieve their goal anyone who disagrees with them will shipped off to reducation camps—or worse.

Ensign needs to resign. If he doesn’t resign, he needs to be ousted next election.

That is actually true, Reid is going down hard like a whirlpool, we need him to drag down the whole ticket. But Ensign has always been a Quisling, Reid must have something on him.

I really think Ensign’s best decision would have been to just be quiet. However, one has to wonder with the disgusting bunch of people we seem to elect whether it is not just all about helping each other. It certainly isn’t about the interests of this country and its people.
No we shouldn't do the same thing. We should make it short sweet, to the point and blast it over all forms of communication such as radio, TV, billboards that little harry reed is a sniveling, shivering COWARD.

I’d just be concerned that Dems get someone relatively smarter like Evan Bayh in there and then also put up competition in Nevada. Much better to have Reid in there with his foot in mouth compulsions.
You might be right. I think Ensign knows the GOP is better off with Reid staying. Reid is in such bad shape that we want him to stay.
