5.5 and 5.9 aftershocks. The 5.9 is some ways to the southwest of the original quake.

Now that song will be in my head ALL NIGHT!!!

On a more serious note:
Prayers for the people in Haiti — given their level of civilization, this will extract a terrible toll.

Prayers said for the region and hoping that it doesn’t get as dire as they are saying.

Does anyone have the link to the ring of fire earthquake maps that were posted on here the other night? I should have saved them then and I didn’t.

Thanks.

The photo you posted is not an unusual scene in Haiti.

EDIT: “10:1 zero in a bid to be Presidential, sends troops.”

As in never let a crisis go to waste. Low risk high visibility “action” on his part.

Wouldn’t an earthquake under shallow water produce less of a tsunami due to the fact it wouldn’t have to move as much water?

Just days ago I made a similar comment to my husband. I'll be watching the thread to see if someone has an answer (if I don't find it online first). Great minds & all...right?!

*The Earth is Suffering Birth Pains*

The Earth has been experiencing hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. for a very long time.

Draw close to the LORD

Always a good idea ... even in times which aren't so perilous.

>>Actually, the Ring of Fire is around the Pacific.<<

I seem to recall it actually goes around the globe and encompasses places like Pompeii.

I need to do a little research to clarify. There may be more than one definition...

The USGS indicates that the epicenter is 10 miles SW of Port Au Prince, which is under the island...not under the ocean. This may limit the chances of a tsunami.
