Help should have already been on the way hours ago. It’s not like we don’t know something about earthquakes.

Hatians are dark complected and have a strong dialect.

Just wait. The push is going to be to bring hundreds of thousands of Haitians here to the US mainland.

Not likely you can get on a boat to get out of the place. It'll be a good long while before anyone can be evacuated anywhere ~ weeks ~ months maybe.

I just saw a critical piece of news ~ on a main thoroughfare somewhere in the vicinity of the capital there were fewer buildings standing than had been completely knocked down.

This area is not backing up against a vast hinterland of relatively safe and prosperous cities and towns. It's a small place and it just got kicked into the dirt. The USA is the only place that can actually help them ~ and we will. Still, time for the French to ship us some aid workers on this just to translate.

I watched Larry King’s coverage of the earthquake because Hannity didn’t cover it.

I suspect la Croix Rouge française is doing just that as we speak.

Been watching this since it broke and have to say Fox has really dropped the ball on covering this story.

I kept switching back to Fox to see if they were covering it, and they weren't. So I stayed with CNN.

Fox probably doesn't have any reporters on the scene. Neither do the others. However, you are comparing a pre-recorded period of political and cultural discussion against some live TV segments on CNN.

By tomorrow you'll know all you need to know ~ frankly, it's quite horrible there ~ more or less like after a cluster of tornados comes through your end of town and turns everybody's home into rubbish ~ only with an earthquake folks don't have a shot at taking cover so huge numbers of them are dead.

I'm curious about what Obama will do ~ this is like a thousand Katrinas and frankly I don't think he's up to dealing with such things.

Good lord. I didn’t realize how bad this was earlier. My first comment was to estimate damage at tens and tens of dollars. Yikes. This is much worse than one could have thought up.

This is a tragedy squared.

A specialized rescue unit from the Los Angeles County Fire Department is preparing for deployment to Haiti following a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that rocked the Caribbean island nation earlier today, officials said.

The 72-member heavy rescue task force received a request for help from the U.S. Agency for International Development and is gathering at a staging area in Pomona, county fire officials said.

The team includes paramedics, search dogs, communication specialists and rescuers who are trained in combing through collapsed structures to find victims.

The rescuers rely on sophisticated detection devices and equipment capable of shoring weakened structures and moving heavy chunks of rubble, officials said.

Relief officials said they were preparing for substantial damage and casualties after Haiti was rocked by the quake, the largest to ever strike the region.

Stevio, we as human beings have no choice but to help. The US military should be assembling a airlift and a carrier (if available) should be making preps to get underway. A hospital ship should also be making preps.
Lets see what REALLY happens now.

Well, his chief economic adviser previously ran Harvards endowment into the ground.... his appointment for Homeland Security let tens of thousands of illegals cross her border during her last tenure in AZ, so I’m sure who ever he sends will be qualified to phuck things up just fine.

“If the US has a heart, we will respond to the best of our ability. It’s our own backyard...Monroe Doctrine and all. We claim it, we own it. “

We need to do everything we can to help these people. One would hope that we can mount an effective, massive relief program, with Haiti being relatively close to the US.

I heard earlier tonight that this is the largest earthquake in their history.

I wish the same courtesy had been afforded Bush in Katrina. That’s the point I was trying to make. Such criticism sounds awful but it’s all we heard a few years ago
