Reporting from Washington - The Obama administration, offering evidence that its much-maligned efforts to spur economic recovery have begun to take hold, said Tuesday that the $787-billion stimulus program saved or created 1.5 million to 2 million jobs last year.
These latest figures from the White House Council of Economic Advisors are certain to be challenged by Republicans, but the employment and economic effects of the stimulus cited in the report are generally in line with estimates from some leading private economists as well as the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office.
"This is truly a stunning effect" of the Recovery Act, Christina Romer, chairwoman of the council, said in a conference call with reporters.

Which is like bragging that your team only got beat by 40 points, rather than 6o!
Prove it! The only jobs “created” or saved were in the unproductive, non-revenue producing public sector (i.e., government jobs): NO jobs in the private sector were created. ObaMugabe and his lemming camp followers will spin anything.
Hey Obama! My son-in-law needs a job!
Is that a B plus?
Where ? Prove it. Sure the he// it didn’t create duck squirt here in MI.
Jobs saved is a totally made up , unprovable number.
That puts the cost at between $400,000 to $524,000 per job. Another Obama system that is working.
Didnt he just change the way he counts jobs saved to perk up the numbers.?
This administration is a lie from front to back
Put this one out there front and center right along side the 10% unemployment (18% real unemployment). We need a good laugh every now and then.
Thanks for doing the math. Where do I sign up for one of those jobs?
According to BLS figures, unemployment increased in the public sector from 2.3 to 3.6 or a decline of about 275K jobs for the last year. If they are creating jobs, they are losing jobs faster than they are creating them..
That puts the cost at between $400,000 to $524,000 per job.
It’s pure governmentspeak. There’s no truth in it.
Proof that smoking crack is a requirement to be an adviser to the Obama Administration.
“White House changes stimulus job accounting
New method will make it impossible to track ones saved or created.

WASHINGTON - The White House has abandoned its controversial method of counting jobs under President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus, making it impossible to track the number of jobs saved or created with the $787 billion in recovery money.
Despite mounting a vigorous defense of its earlier count of more than 640,000 jobs credited to the stimulus, even after numerous errors were identified, the Obama administration now is making it easier to give the stimulus credit for hiring. It’s no longer about counting a job as saved or created; now it’s a matter of counting jobs funded by the stimulus.
That means that any stimulus money used to cover payroll will be included in the jobs credited to the program, including pay raises for existing employees and pay for people who never were in jeopardy of losing their positions.
“Thanks for doing the math. Where do I sign up for one of those jobs?”
They just can’t help being offensive...you knew those were only jobs for “Bammy’s folk...them that adulate and donate...
The number is for people employed not new jobs. we got an interstate segment repaved. It would have been done without the stimulus however.
I see the Obama administration is resorting to the Joseph Goebbels school of propaganda.
The only jobs zero’s spending has saved is the people running the printing presses printing more $$$$$$ bills.
I don’t buy the jobs saved shiite at all. All the new yobs are in the federal gov.
Oh hell, why not 3 million, or even 10 million when you're just making it up anyway? Why limit yourself to such a small number?
Probably they're going with 2 million because they think it might be more believable, than say, 10 million.
One does wonder though, since they keep making up different "jobs created/saved" numbers from month to month, if it's starting to give the average American sheeple the idea that they might just be lying. And if they're lying about this, what else are they lying about?
And if they’re lying about this, what else are they lying about?
