Sporadic gunfire was heard Wednesday night outside the hotel where CNN is lodged.
Sirens could be heard at times, but the predominant sounds in the pre-dawn darkness were the shouts and screams from the thousands of people who spent the night in a dark park across the street. A rooster's crowing could sometimes be heard above the din.

The hotel resembles a compound, with razor wire topping eight-foot walls and a gated parking lot, guarded by a man wielding an old shotgun. And although the hotel's residents seemed safe, and street violence had not been seen, there was a feeling of apprehension.

And yet they had the intelligence to allow U.S. govt. help faster than the Louisiana Democrats in the aftermath of Katrina.
The hotel should be evacuated of reporters and used to house the earthquake victims.
The media is disgusting for using resources at this time.
Hell just got hotter. The UN is there though...things will be alright.
Nature did it’s part. Give it a week and we’ll see what the people do.
Chances are more people will die after the quake than during it. Give a few days for disease, dehydration, and infected injuries to take their toll.
Hussein is using Haiti to first of all “change the subject” from all the problems and thuggery surrounding his fascist dictatorship in-the-making and to appear compassionate, warm and fuzzy. So why should it be surprising to see CNN, MSNBC and even FOX turning the Haiti story into another Jerry’s Kids! It’s become a 24/7 “here’s how to donate” telethon. Of course no one has mentioned the fact that Haiti is a global armpit due to the rule of criminals and dictators, not because the “evil, imperialist” US has been unkind and selfish!!
I pray that the living may be fed and the survivors permitted to rebuild their lives and their homes and their nation and create a new, better Haiti without corrupt officials stealing their hope for a better future.
This just maybe too big in scope a disaster. There is no local source of water and electricity. Looks like there may not be for weeks. Every organization that comes in has to be self-sufficient. What happens when the thirst and hunger of those who number in the millions becomes too great and the only people eating well are behind razor wire?

This thing is so big, so deadly and so hopeless it almost requires that all the living be evacuated and the entire area carpet bombed flat so they can start over from scratch.
When he's done in Haiti, they may end up with a real democracy.
No, It is the politicians who are the fastest to get their names and faces on camera etc. politicizing this tragedy...little can be done until the U.S. Marines land and take charge of the rescue efforts....Haiti when not dominated by a Dictator is a Welfare State compliments of the Black Caucus, Obama, Maxine Waters and others who keep pumping $$s into a sadly uneducated, superstitious bunch of children that rarely helps anyone but the local Patrons. Remember the 'over-kill' of pious help during Katrina? The press loved it....even in a 'civilized' country, New Orleans is far from recovery....where did that money go..Oh yeah, perky Mary would know............Haitians have been denied education that might have helped them get through this disaster...Oh that's right, people in Louisiana had 'good' educations, billions of dollars 'they said' for education....must be Bush's fault..how else can you explain............
Not sure about the carpet bombing, but it seems to me all able-bodied people should be moved to camp areas, and the rest of the country scoured and cleaned by relief agencies. If people are in a panic everywhere, it won’t be long before they turn on those who are helping them.
This is a serious worry. A lot of hard, dirty work has to be done quickly and there doesn't seem to be a single thing working in their favor to ever get it done, much less quickly before the disease, starvation and rioting starts.
Prayers.
I was making that same observation this morning.
The USA has given BILLIONS in aid to that filthcraphole of a ‘country’ in the past 5 years and nothing will change until the corrupt government is sent packing.
True help would mean setting up an honest government and implementing capitalism instead of cronyism...
Just look what cronyism is doing to the USA at this very moment.
I’m sick of all this whining about Haiti...it’s been a craphole for centuries...
Are you sure??????
I haven’t seen her majesty, Ms. Jackson-Lee. How did she miss this photo op?
