Fort Pierce, Florida is Haiti’s second most populated city.
Fort Pierce, Florida also is the crack capital of the U.S.
Coincidence? I think not.

Send them to Cuba, I hear they really like blacks there and since they have more MDs than we do, they would be better able to handle the health care needs of these people.
Ask Mike Moore. They have the best healthcare in the world.

Exsoldier, are you hearing anything interesting from your students from Haiti, or the community at large, that’s not making national news?

Also expect large numbers of Haitian refugees to end up in Montreal & Toronto.

I've seen reports from the MSM that indicate the dead number "only" around 50,000 when the real figures may be 10 times that. Worse, the dead are being buried in mass graves without being ID'ed and the death tolls are bigger the deeper inland you go (building materials and design are even more primitive than in the cities). A lot of folks are going out of their minds here. Most of MY students are a couple of generations removed from the island, but family ties run deep.

FL is turning into a blue state.

A capacity for self-organization seems to be lacking on that island.

I read in a local NYC paper that we may grant citizenship to 150,000 refugees.

It’s a shame. Florida is still trying to get back on its feet from the recession, high unemployment and a huge wave of foreclosures. Just what the state doesn’t need right now.

Not to be hard-hearted, but I don't see a problem with mass graves. ID would be a good idea for the families, but could anyone realistically expect that in Haiti?

Yeah. I blame the French.

I went to Nicaragua as a student volunteer in 1974. When I strolled around Managua is was weird to think that I was walking over the tops of mass graves dug after the 1972 earthquake. The clocks in the city were still stopped at the fateful moment of just after midnight. I agree, that the mass graves are a health emergency "fix." I just feel awful for the familes who'll never know the resting place of their loved one.

That would be a big mistake. Seems our government tries to use every excuse to stick it to the U.S.
