Conan, Lambert And Those Insular Coastal Elites
IBD's Capital Hill ^ | 1/15/2010 | Ed Carson

Amid NBC’s messy late-night lineup fight, a “wired army” has used blogs, Facebook and Twitter to support embattled “Tonight Show” host Conan O’Brien. There’s little cyber backing for Jay Leno. It’s always been trendy to prefer O’Brien or David Letterman. Everyone knows they’re funny and Leno’s not. But when it came to actual viewers, Leno consistently beat Letterman while O’Brien has struggled as his replacement. (Leno has flopped at 10 o’clock.)

Story makes this point: While coastal elites like to think of themselves as worldly, in many ways they are far more insular than rural America.

I do not think Conan is a bad guy or a mega lib. Ditto Leno. I have no interest in watching them or any TV.

Leno piled on George Bush unfairly just like the rest of them. He can go to hell.

Elites and leftists ARE “worldly”...

See James 4:4.

Geez guys, I haven’t watched any of these shows in decades. The simple reason is I work for a living and need to sleep. My guess is this is pretty true with a lot of people. Also, we now have something in excess of 250 channels - I can always find something more entertaining than the interview format show. Hell, most of the time I have no idea why the person being interviewed is being interviewed. Who are they, what have they done, and why should I care, are common questions when I glance at one of these shows. Generally speaking, I don’t think I am missing anything.

"coastal elites"

In this case, 'East Coast Elites.' The rest of the country may receive the programming at different times. Different Time Zones.

Watched Conan for the first half hour last night just to hear what he had to say about the controversy (nothing extraordinary, but got a few laughs). They then went to show one of the “best” highlights of their seven-month run. They had some male stripper on who stripped and performed a crotch dance in Conan’s face while on his desk. Totally tasteless and frankly offensive. No wonder Conan’s getting the boot.

it has nothing to do with whether or not you like conan or not. NBC screwed up with the Jay Leno Show and thought they could do a ‘do-over’ and push Conan back. Well, once you give someone the Tonight Show, you can’t expect him to give it back.
