Democrats Accuse Brown of 'Radical' Ties as Senate Election Nears

FOXNews.com

GOP Senate candidate Scott Brown and his supporters are firing back at Democratic senators for accusing him of being a "far-right" politician backed by "right-wing radicals" by virtue of his ties to the conservative tea party movement.

Brown, with the support of the tea party groups and others, is posing a stiff challenge to Democrat Martha Coakley in the race for the U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts formerly held by the late Ted Kennedy. Polls show him closing in on Coakley, long the frontrunner, with just four days to go until the special election, and the latest survey shows him leading by 4 points.

With the race tightening, national Democratic heavyweights have stepped into the picture and are lobbing harsh accusations at Brown's support network.

Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., claimed in an e-mail that "swift boaters" were trying to sink Coakley, a reference to the ads that targeted him in the 2004 presidential campaign. Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., called Brown a "far-right tea-bagger" in an e-mail, using a term that also can refer to a sexual act. Then on Friday, Sen. Chris Dodd, D-Conn., wrote in a fundraising e-mail that Coakley was "being attacked by tea partiers and right-wing radicals."

Levi Russell, a spokesman for the Brown-supporting Tea Party Express, said the rhetoric is a "sign of desperation" from Coakley's backers.

*snip*

...Brown, a state senator, did not come out of the tea party movement, though he is supported by it. Russell said a Brown victory would still count as a "win" for the tea party groups.

Tea Party Express announced Friday that it had spent more than $200,000 to support Brown, with much of that going into a new TV ad endorsing him.

Tea Party Express Spending for Scott Brown's Senate Campaign Now Tops $200,000

The Tea Party Express (www.TeaPartyExpress.org) has now spent over $200,000 in independent expenditures supporting Massachusetts Senate candidate, Scott Brown.  The centerpiece of the ad campaign is this new TV ad endorsing Brown:

WATCH TV AD: "Tea Party Express Endorses Scott Brown" - HERE

The TV ads will air throughout the entire state of Massachusetts through the Special Election on January 19.

UPDATE: The ad buy includes both network affiliates (ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX & CW Network) and cable news channels reachng voters throughout the state.

UPDATE 2: Because of scarce inventory on TV stations and local/regional cable networks in Massahusetts, the Tea Party Express has begun purchasing airtime on national cable networks to reach the voters of Massachusetts. Competition for the limited inventory of ad space at TV stations has driven some rates as high as national networks in some cases!

The independent expenditure by the Tea Party Express will exceed $150,000.  The ad campaign has been funded by contributions from thousands upon thousands of small donors who support the Tea Party Express effort.

“The Tea Party Express has chosen to support Scott Brown because his vote will be a critical component of blocking the deeply flawed healthcare bill currently being proposed by Congress,” explained Mark Williams, Chairman of the Tea Party Express.

UPDATE:  "Scott Brown has generated a great deal of excitement from many supporters and activists within the tea party movement.  We appreciate his bold platform of lower taxes, less government spending and opposing the government-run healthcare bill that Harry Reid is trying to jam through," said tea party activist Amy Kremer, a spokesperson for the Tea Party Express.

Reminds me of an old story where one candidate accused the other of being a thespian. Say it with the right attitude and hope the voters are stupid. It’s worked before for the Dems. Will it this time?

Good to see you’re at least going to his website before calling him a RINO or a moderate.

Here in is the Republican Party’s biggest hurdle and one I doubt the Moderates (RINOs) in the party are going to allow removed. So long as the Republican leadership continues to marginalize the biggest segment of their party, the Conservatives, they are NEVER going to regain control. I for one am a “far right winger.” A very devout Christian and a true Conservative. I take offense when those that are vying for my vote mock my values and the Party’s long standing platform by turning, running and hiding every time our enemies, the demoncrap liberals, put the RINOs in the same category as those Conservative Constituents that they are supposed to represent. Because of this I have passed the point of caring what the Republicans do from now on. I will vote for anyone other than a Republican or a Demoncrap. They can all piss off for all I care.

I wasn't trying to call him a RINO. I like him. He's smart, and witty. He seems like a potential future leader for the republican party.

But he's definitely not a right winger. Which is fine because he lets you know on his site where he stands. What I can't stand are the politicians that claim to be soooo conservative, but when they get into office they turn into Lindsey Graham.

If Scott wins, I think Pelosi will come unhinged (not that she isn’t 90% there already) and some of the others might just have a stroke, like the old ones, Murtha and Byrd and Bawwnneeey Fwank

not sure a tea party endorsement is a wise thing to do for Brown at this point. Wish they wouldn’t do this.

“not sure a tea party endorsement is a wise thing to do for Brown at this point. Wish they wouldn’t do this.”

Why not? It looks like a very large part of the voters in MA are not affiliated with a party.
