A public school teacher I know was lobbying for these new taxes by making phone calls to people on their behalf (organized by her union) a few months ago. She was doing this (as far as I know) on her own time, not from school property.

Is this illegal? The way the story was written it would appear to be.

I agree that as the article is written, it appears that union-organized lobbying by individual teachers is in fact illegal.

I’m not sure what Oregon law says about teachers acting indiviually, though.

It was the PTA’s organizational efforts that surprised me because I had no idea that state-wide or national PTAs even existed.

PS: I am not familiar with Oregon law at all. I’m in NY and my kids do not attend public school, so I’m probably not the best person to ask for specifics.
