If we were smart, we'd pull out now.

The UN prides itself on its performance during disasters. Fine. Let the UN run things.

Why should the US wetnurse the rest of the world?

"Brazil and France lodged an official protest with Washington after US military aircraft were given priority at Port-au-Prince's congested airport, forcing many non-US flights to divert to the Dominican Republic. "

What you resist, persists.

Bring all of our troops and planes back home, step aside and let the french and brazilians have it...they want the glory, then let them do the heavy lifting.

We don't need to keep pouring out our soul to the world, only to have these two-bit countries and the UN trounce on it.

It's utterly amazing that we foot the lions share cost for the UN...even provide them a place to meet...and we're the first to get thrown under the bus by them everytime.

The current pres_ent should look into charging all member countries some RENT money for that fine building...maybe if he did he could knock a couple of bucks off the taxes of our own citizens for a change.

What a useless organization....

. UNecessary

I see that Hilary has flown in, and Ban Ki Moon of the UN is flying in.

The amount of resources which will have to be diverted to protect these people, ferry them around, with their entourage and a flock of press with them, will prevent the real work from being done.

Celebrities and politicians are not needed in Haiti, and they should

STAY OUT!

One African country said they’d take the entire population.

I agree re: celebs and politicians showing up for disasters. They do that here in the US too. Every time there is a hurricane or flood or whatever, they show up...not to work on relief efforts, but to get their faces on tv and in the newspapers. I think that when a celeb shows up at these disasters, someone oughta fit them with hip boots, overalls and shovels and tell them to get busy.

Wait until Rio has trouble putting on the Olympics-—and they say it was because they spent so much $$$$$ in Haiti!!!

Long term prediction, but let’s see how right I will be.

Yes, well I'm sure that they had a difficult time delivering the 2 boxes of "Cream of Wheat" and the "Zagnut" bar into the hands of the rescue forces (read: UNITED STATES) but it's best to reserve the airport for the people actually interested in helping.

Fine. let the French lead this, we help dig the Haitians out, get them medical, food, water, then leave. Let the rest of the world take care and pay for this.

If not— just scream Monroe Doctrine over and over, whilst placing fingers firmly in ears. Neener, we are king of the hill!

This bs is getting to be too much. Sounds like a bunch of mamas stinkin’ babies, pitchin a fit as folks are out there dyin’!

Well, now, that's interesting. With the country in shambles because of the quake, where are they staying? Bet they're not staying in a tent somewhere -- they have to have first class accommodations. Wonder what's going on behind the scenes.

Now that chaos reins in Haiti I suspect we won’t be hearing about that country 24/7.

God help those poor people.

we need to get out now before we get roped in and let the UN deal with this

we could still use a med ship for them and the return them back to the island after they are dealt with but we need to get the hell out now.

life was cheap over there and violence is the normal way of life for them and we don’t need to be there in the middle of that and their gang/drug turf.

we shouldn’t do any flights, let the UN do this

if they need medical help we have a med ship but our military needs to get out now as life is cheap on that island before and after the earth quake

are we supposed to wait for one of our boys to get into a fire fight before obama /media wakes up

good let them but for crying out loud get our boys and girls out of there and off that island.

if Americans want to help over there then let them but I see no reason why our military is over there and could get into a fire fight with the locals who look at killing a as sport before this so heaven knows how they will be now

If Africa wants to take the entire population then good for them

Pull our troops and airplanes out of Haiti and pull the US out of that worthless gaggle of nincompoops known as the UN.

I think this is a case of those who have no understanding of logistics criticizing those who do. What Port-au-Prince needs is warehouses where there is now wreckage, refueling facilities where there is now wreckage, and roads into town where there is now wreckage. Not to mention port facilities where there is now wreckage. Sending flights into places close by where all this stuff exists is an act of efficiency, not "annexation." The Guardian and AFP need to hit the soft pedal on their customary anti-American crap and let the pros do their work. IMHO.

Americans are generous people and I believe most would support us helping in Haiti but it's good to see the 82nd Airborne there just in case. This is a case where you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. At the same time, we should get out ASAP.
