That Other Hollywood: Cheers! [John Ratzenberger Explains RAT Party]
NRO Corner ^ | 01/17/10 | Kathryn Lopez

I Tweeted a little Cliff Claven, but here's some more from John Ratzenberger's remarks at Brown rally earlier:

"This isn't the Democratic party of our fathers and grandfathers. This is the party of Woodstock hippies. I was at Woodstock — I built the stage. And when everything fell apart, and people were fighting for peanut-butter sandwiches, it was the National Guard who came in and saved the same people who were protesting them. So when Hillary Clinton a few years ago wanted to build a Woodstock memorial, I said it should be a statue of a National Guardsman feeding a crying hippie."

Well, speaking as a veteran of both Woodstock and the US Regular Army I can say without a doubt that no Guardsman ever saved my bacon or gave me a peanut butter sandwich. Not that I wouldn’t have accepted however.

“This isn't the Democratic party of our fathers and grandfathers. This is the party of Woodstock hippies.”

Exactly right. My Father, and his father, and his father before him were all Democrats. Conservative Democrats in the fashion of Zell Miller, but Democrats just the same, who would vote no other way but Democrat. Thankfully this guy on the radio my Dad started listening broke through and convinced my Dad that his party is not the he once knew. That it move so far to the left that it is not recognizable to him anymore. That radio host? Rush Limbaugh. Before my Dad passed away he was a fully converted Republican, and was able to cast his first Republican vote for George H. W. Bush

Learn new things every day. I didn’t know he’d built the stage for Woodstock. But uh-oh...people aren’t supposed to drift from the script. Truth isn’t to be told. We’re supposed to believe it was simply a peaceful kum ba yah campfire with decent music that enchanted the nation.

When I registered to vote in 1975 I was the only Republican in the whole parish (county). The clerk at the courthouse laughed at me. Now the area(s) at and near where I reside consistently vote Republican.

Message is how the polical dynamics can change rapidly. I predict that soon socialism will be vilified beyond reproach.

Cliff Claven is a character. John Ratzenberger is an actor. That means that he was acting as Cliff. And he's an inventor. I believe that he holds a number of patents, including the one for the bio-degradable version of the styrofoam peanut used in shipping.
