The company posted a statement on their site about the passing of Bell Monday, reports the Washington Post.
"Glen Bell was a visionary and innovator in the restaurant industry, as well as a dedicated family man," Greg Creed, president of Taco Bell, said in the statement.Bell was a WWII veteran. After observing how McDonald's was making fast food, he opened his first restaurant Bell's Drive-In in 1948. He was part of launching Taco Tias, El Tacos and Der Wienerschnitzel.
He started Taco Bell in 1962 selling his first franchise in 1964. In 1978 he sold his 868 Taco Bell restaurants to PepsiCo for $125 million in stock.
Taco Bell is the world's largest Mexican fast food chain in the United States with more than 5,600 locations.
Perhaps Taco Bell will lower the price of its 89-cent taco to 86-cents for a few days.
Great Phone Company! ...RIP.
Anyone know if Mr. Tico is still around?
Wrap him up, folks.
The casket is open until midnight or later
Lo siento mucho. Via con Dios, Willie.
Only for the drive-thru viewers though...
When my wife and I were a very young and poor couple Taco Bell saved our life. Cheap eats. And still good stuff!
Taco Bell, future winner of the franchise wars.
LOL
Good point.
Paraphrasing Francois Marie Arouet?
First fast food chain to get the three seashells in every stall!
Voltaire...by way of Dave Barry...I think.
An example of capitalism at its finest.
If Obama should succeed in ramming through his socialist agenda and destroying capitalism, you won't see anything as enterprising ever again. Socialism kills innovation.
Fourth Wake? ;)
I celebrated Taco Bell day today by purchasing a taco from their new Fresco menu.... they have omitted cheese but added a really flavorful pico ... Thanks Mr. Bell -
Bless Mr. Bell for his invention of the burrito supreme and frioles with hot sauce which sustained me since I was a teenager.
