Many New York Democratic insiders are privately speculating that if the Democrats face a Martha Coakley loss - or near-loss - in Massachusetts to GOPer Scott Brown in tomorrow's senate election, it increases the odds of a Harold Ford Jr. candidacy.
The logic, several longtime Democratic strategists and insiders said, is that if Coakley loses such a blue state - and the seat held by Ted Kennedy, one of the senate's most liberal members, for nearly 50 years - then it spells trouble for other Dem incumbents in the fall.
Rep. Charles Rangel, a firm Kirsten Gillibrand backer, dismissed any comparisons of the Massachusetts situation to New York politics outside the Rev. Al Sharpton's National Action Network. And it's certainly true that Massachusetts is a general race, while the potential one here is a primary.
But one Ford booster said privately, "If Coakley loses, or wins by less than five, it increases the likelihood that he gets in."

Isn’t he is a Democrat who has a record as a former member of the House from Tennessee and a stint on MSMBC? Hold them all to account, present incumbent or not.
Cuomo needs Ford so he (Cuomo) can take on Patterson - Cuomo wants to be governor so bad he can taste it, but he’s worried about the race card. A white guy taking out a sitting black governor in a primary challenge is poor form. If Cuomo endorses Ford over Gillibrand, he probably thinks that gives him political cover to take on Patterson, Ford, for his part, wants to be senator so bad he can taste it (having run in TN) and needs Cuomo to legitimize his ambitions.
Nothing would make me happier than to see a Cuomo-Ford axis make war on the Patterson-Gillibrand-Schumer alliance. That could end up being the most entertaining political story of the summer, and buy, will it cost the Dums a lot of money. C’mon, Harold, BRING IT!!!!
What’s with NY?
Don’t they have any local people who would make good politicians?
Why are they so hot on importing politicians from other states?
I think Lazio is considering a run against Gillebrand. If liberal Westchester can vote for a Republican over a long-time Democrat incumbent, I’m hopeful they can vote smug I-know-better-than-you Chuckie Schumer out. Come on New York! Schumer has been in every single shot taken of the Dems trying to ram healthcare through. He insults anyone who disagrees with him, rather than addressing their disagreement. I can’t understand why New York can’t find a Conservative candidate who knows a thing or two about the constitution, has integrity, believes in small government and a strong military, is pro gun rights, and understands economics! Do we have to import such a person from out of state?
I agree...it’s rewarding and entertaining to see a bunch of Dhimmis at each others’ throats.
The division, time and money wasted, and ill will among them can only serve to make conservatives smile.
Does he have property or a House in NY?
Are NY-er's that stupid again?
Just because a pickup truck wins in Mass. doesn’t mean a Ford can win in NY.
An interesting comment from the site.

How about telling us the name of the anonymous “Ford booster” you spoke to. Back in the bad old days, when I was employed by your esteemed publisher, the “source” was often the reporter at the next desk. I’m sure they don’t allow that sort of thing anymore — right?
“...doesnt mean a Ford can win in NY.”
A Tennessee Ford sans the Ernie...
Make that a “Memphis” Ford. Good Riddance
Lazio is running for Governor.
He should be able to beat Patterson; Cuomo would be a struggle.
Not sure what Pataki’s plans are. I think everyone is waiting to see what Ford does.
I thought Lazio was going for senate seat, apparently not. So WHO on the Conservative/Republican side will take on Gillebrand. She wasn’t very impressive and voted straight down the line with Schumer. These two have got to go. I think if Massachusetts can elect a Republican senator (I’m confident they will), New York can, too! Republicans/conservatives won in 2009 local elections. The left has bitten off way too much and scared the daylights out of the electorate in the process.
No idea. Gillibrand would get slaughtered by Giuliani and perhaps by Pataki. But no one is stepping up. Maybe John Faso (ran against Spitzer in ‘06)?
That’s why I think a huge poop fight within the Dums is so important - a weakened weary opponent might entice some GOP hopeful to step up.
Brown wins Massachusetts. Will someone please step up for Gillebrand’s seat!
