Independent Voters Abandon Democrats
Wall Street Journal ^ | 1/19/2010 | PETER WALLSTEN

Democrats' loss in Tuesday's race for a Massachusetts Senate seat is a stark illustration of their collapsing support from independent voters, a phenomenon that's prompting party leaders to revamp their playbook for this year's midterm elections.

Independent voters—typically centrist, white and working-class—backed President Barack Obama and the Democrats in 2008. But Massachusetts is now the third Obama-won state in the past three months where independents have swung decisively Republican.

Polls in the days leading up to the vote suggested the lead for Republican Scott Brown came about largely because of his advantage among independents over Democrat Martha Coakley.

A new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll shows that Mr. Obama's job-approval rating among independents nationwide is 41%. That's a 12-point drop from his performance on Election Day in 2008, when he won 52% of independents, and a near-20-point decline among that group from the heights of his popularity soon after taking office.

Over on DU they’re saying that the Democrat Party isn’t left enough. I agree - they need to take an even harder swing left. That’s what will win them the next election. I would even adopt a symbol that represents hard working people in this country, maybe something with some basic tools in it. A hammer and sickle might work. Go for it, guys. Go left. Hard Left. That’s the way you win elections in America.

Like you, I’ve been reading DU, DailyKos, & MoveOn.org. Those guys are hilarious in their cluelessness. You’re right — they’re ALL saying the Democratic Party has to move to the far-ultra-left in order to prevent this from happening again. That is beyond insane.

The same people will be hard to fool again.”Independents”.

Hard line Dem's can be told anything and the lever is pulled.

Not so easy with hard line Repub’s but similar.

Independents like myself are ill to our toes with both lying party's and are EXTREMELY weary of voting for the lesser of two evils.

the media covered for obama the entire presidential election and hid what he really was, now that they have seen what he really is, what we have been telling them all along, they deserted him in droves, towns that went for obama in 2008 flipped 2 to 1 for brown

If they are smart they will break up this omnibus bills into smaller ones and pass them separately. They won’t get all they want but they could get through enough to claim some measure of success. Don’t forget that Brown voted for Romneycare. The Bobbsey twins from Maine are even more open.

You’d abandon the Democrats, too, when you have the prospect of 1/6 the US economy being taken over by government mandate and increasingly oppressive levels of taxation.

I am still a registered Republican, but I feel your pain, with the lesser of two evils. I sincerely hope we can regain your respect in the future by finding the right people such as Scott Brown to run in every state. They are out there, we know it, they just have to come forth.

I am so tired of the old hacks, both parties thinking they own those seats forever. Those offices belong to us, not the clintoons, bamas, mccains, or kennedys dynasties, enough is enough.

We’re on the same page. My weary comes from the liberal republican hacks who currently run much of the party. There needs to be a serious house cleaning with a revolutionary mindset towards returning our country back to greatness.

"revolutionary mindset"""""

It has begun, and tonight/last night's election was the First shot. They heard us/then again I don't care if they heard us, we will not be stopped until every cockroach of both parties are sent home.

They had best be very scared of how they behave from now on, we are now Legion and we will not be ignored or stopped. "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah"
