New Republic Editor Goes Off Deep End Over Fate of ObamaCare

Few liberals have been more insistent on the inevitability of ObamaCare than The New Republic editor Jonathan Chait (along with his TNR colleague Jonathan Cohn). He is stubbornly clinging to the notion that ObamaCare can be a done deal despite the results of yesterday's election in Massachussets giving Republicans the 41st vote to block it in the Senate. To give you an idea of how far Chait has gone off the deep end, take a look at his money quote on the topic of liberal Democrats who consider the Mass. election a referendum on ObamaCare in his ironically titled column, Mass Hysteria:

Still, it's fairly amazing to me to see the Democrats reacting with such hysteria. It's not just moderates trying to position themselves to the center. Barney Frank and Anthony Weiner are acting like pathetic, emotional cowards. They seem to think that one very attractive candidate beating a hapless foe amounts to a national referendum to which every other member of Congress is bound.

I eagerly tuned in this morning to the local “Progressive” station here in Boston (1510-AM) to get their take on the aftermath of Brown-Coakley. It turns out they were playing a tape of their coverage from last night. Apparently the morning guy couldn’t pull himself out of bed to face the morning after. Funny.

I wonder if anyone at TNR described Brown as a "very attractive candidate" or Coakley as "hapless" BEFORE the election of if TNR is in the habit of hiding their honest evaluations from their readers to advance TNR's political agenda.

While Progressivism is supported by a great majority of (non-believing) Jews, the majority of Progressivism’s supporters are not Jewish. I therefore find it offensive to apply a religious label to a political phenomenon that has its roots and main support elsewhere.

It would perhaps be more accurately described as Wilsonian Progressivism; hardly “Jewish”, though most Jews signed on.

We very Conservative actually practicing G-d fearing Jews don’t like being lumped in with the leftists. Please.

I regret if you were offended. When considering that published figures indicate 90 to 95% of Jewish Voters support the progressive agenda, a conservative Jewish person is a minority of a minority.
