Pelosi Doesn't Have the Votes to Pass the Senate Bill
The Weekly Standard ^ | January 20, 2010 | JOHN MCCORMACK

Posted on 01/20/2010 9:26:07 AM PST by La Lydia

In November, the House passed the health care bill on a 220 to 215 vote. Since that time, Florida's Robert Wexler has retired, and Reps. Bart Stupak, Joseph Cao, and Steve Driehaus have pledged to vote against the bill if it includes the Senate bill's abortion-funding language. So, Pelosi has at best 216 votes right now--and Stupak should be able to bring along about 10 more of those 216 votes due to the abortion issue. So Pelosi might have about 206 votes before we account for those who can't stomach the tax on union health care plans.

Are a dozen Democrats who voted against the health care bill in November really going to change their minds and vote for the Senate bill after Scott Brown's stunning victory in Massachusetts?

I hope it dies but I want the radical left to keep pushing and shoving and doing back-room deals and calling the American people stupid as long as possible.

"...and Steve Driehaus have pledged to vote against the bill if it includes the Senate bill's abortion-funding language"

Don't count on a dim or a Driehaus to keep their word....

This POS is my congressman, and he's a typical dim. He'll sell his mama down the river if he thinks he can get away with it. If they come up with enough convoluted language to give him cover, he'll vote for this travesty in a NY minute.

I hope they keep pushing, too. Their other option is to drop this nonsense and create more mayhem trying to “create” jobs. I fear that their job creation scheme will do more damage to the country than doing nothing.

She also doesn’t have many of the uber-left Dems who vowed they would not vote for final passage if the bill did not include the public option — they voted for the bill out of the House last time on the promise that it would be added in the Senate. Pelosi loses Dem votes from all over the caucus.

I think Pelosi is going to lose her job if she keeps pushing this. The Leader of the House is a powerful job, but the House can always remove her if a majority of the party ceases to support her.

Obviously the Scott Brown election was a critical turning point. It changes the whole equation. Who can inflict greater damage and greater rewards? Obama a Pelosi or angry voters. The way things are going now, the handwriting is on the wall. Even a sweetheart deal promised to those who are voted out may no longer be operable, if they lose control of congress and maybe in future the Justice Department. Can Obama offer a bribe now that is really secure? Or are they liable to end up in jail for crooked dealings?

Having one more Repulican vote in the Senate, while very important, is less important than what it demonstrates about popular opinion. The current leadership is taking them into a huge train wreck, and it’s no longer possible to pretend that that’s not the case. Not even the whorish media can cover for them any longer.

Like Reid, she is urging her troops to throw themselves on HER sword for the sake of Obama. I wonder how many of them will be dumb enough to do it.

This old hag Pelosi is going off the deep end

She is just an elitist who is used to calling the shots in her party and is pissed that We The People called the one that screwed up her healthcare plans. Suck it up Pelosi - it’s only going to get worse. We warned you. You didn’t listen. A government by the people, for the people! Leave Pelosi. The only people who like you live in San Francisco. The rest of the country think you suck.

The votes may not be there, but that won’t stop Stretch & Zero from pursuing it anyway.

Remember, this is the holy grail to them. If they have to bring the whole country down around them to get this thing passed, they will.

In a word, the Democrats are royally SCREWED.
Here is what will happen now:
The radical Progressives who hiacked the Democrat party will continue trying to push “Blue Dog” Dems to vote for their leftist agenda.

But Pelozi and 0bama and commrades have no argument left except for “you all got suckered by us, and now you’re going to lose anyways, so we need you to fall on your swords now and continue blindly pushing our agenda, or we’re all going to go down with you.”

That’s not something the Blue Dogs are going to do now as they awake from their zombie-like daze. They will make a last-ditch effort to save their own political hides by turning against 0bama and Pelousy, though Nanzi will be right. There won’t be anything that can save Dems in moderate and conservative seats from the national mood. And with a massive string of failures and broken promises with nothing to show for their reign of absolute power (and absolute terror), the left will be even more dispirited in November than they were last night. The failure Democrats have sown will take down even liberals in liberal states and districts, just like in Massachussetts. And displeasure with 0bama from all sides will only grow exponentially as Americans wake up to the fact that he is a fraud with no leadership or governing ability.

It’s over for the Democrats for a generation now.
There’s not much left to do now but sit back and watch their slow-motion implosion play out.

It remains to be seen. Pelosi knew that she could pass the bill before the votes were taken. She may have allowed some Dems to vote no because it didn’t matter. If push comes to shove, she could call in her markers and turn some of the no votes around.

In politics, things are never as bright as they seem, nor are they as dark as they seem. The Dems took a big hit yesterday, but to say that it’s over for them for an entire generation is wrong. Seems to me, we had our a$$ handed to us just over a year ago. I hope we do a better job, the next time we are running the show. It might be in just 3 years...God willing.
