Senate Leadership To House: Health Care's On You
TPM.com ^ | 01/20/10 | Brian Beutler

After an early morning meeting today, members of the Senate Democratic leadership said outright what many suspected after last night's election: The fate of health care rests with the House.

I asked Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), chair of the Democratic Steering Committee, whether there was any chance Senate Democrats would embark on another round of health care votes if the House sent a modified bill back their way.

"I think at this point, given the new senator from Massachusetts' position, I think that that would be tough to do," she said.

Asked whether the fate of reform rested with the House, Democratic Conference Secretary Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA), said, "I think so."

So what's next for the Senate? Leaders and rank and file members say: Jobs, jobs, jobs.

While there may be some in the House that want to fight this out, even the most leftist Senators - to include Stabenow - seem to be running from Obamacare.

The day Mass votes a republican in is the day every democrat feels mortal. I want to see some cowardice. I want to see the rats scurry from the light like rats.

I want to see this defeated!
I want to see Obama as a lame duck for THREE YEARS.

Gov't jobs no doubt. Those are the only ones they are capable of creating

Thanks OldDeckHand.

“Health Care’s On You” is what the Demwits and other leftist trash were trying to say to taxpayers.

If you would like to be added or dropped from the Michigan ping list, please freepmail me.

Lil' Debbie...I can smell her fear from here. I know Mike Rogers is considering a run at her seat when he is (probably) redistricted out, and I bet he'd kick her keyster.

From the source for your article:

House Doesn't Trust White House or Senate On Health Care

*************************************EXCERPT**************************************

Christina Bellantoni | January 22, 2010, 6:32PM

House Democrats are dramatically divided on how to get health care passed in part because they don't trust the White House or Senate to live up to their promises.

TPMDC has been speaking with House Democratic leadership aides, administration officials and those close to the health care negotiations to get a sense of where the talks are going, if anywhere.

We've sketched out the plans being floated by members, but a big hangup is that more than half of House Democrats don't want to pass the Senate version of the bill with the promise that the bigger differences they've already been hammering out would be fixed with a second bill.

The bottom line is that many members feel betrayed by the White House and Senate and just don't trust that a fix would pass. If their fears pan out, members would be left with a more conservative bill than they passed last fall, and none of the compromises they negotiated with union leaders on how to pay for health care.

Stabenow:"I think that at this point, given the new senator from Massachusetts' position, that [embarking on another round of health care votes if the House sent a modified bill back] would be hard to do."

Although this is a favorable comment for those of us who want no 'Rat health care bill to pass, it also demonstrates the authoritarian mind set of the Senate 'Rats: No voting on anything unless and until the result is fixed in their favor!

This wasn’t her opinion on the 20th when she was quoted in The Hill as saying:
“We are, at this point, we’ll be looking to see what the mood of the House is and what they want to do,” said Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), chairwoman of the Senate Democratic Steering Committee. Reid was unavailable for comment after the meeting. “There’s no willingness to abandon ship on healthcare,” she said.

They’ve been looking for a pretext to bail. Now they’ll move on (ahem) to some other piece of their success-proof agenda, such as amnesty for illegals. I’d like to think that they’ve reached their tulipmania denouement, but I don’t suppose that they have. They’ll spend the rest of this year bitching about how health care didn’t pass because of the Republican minority.

It’s the same rant as Obama has used to try to push for a second fake stimulus — it wasn’t enough, we need more. Until everyone in Congress just gives him a rubberstamp, he won’t be satisfied.
