National Enquirer submitting John Edwards coverage for Pulitzers
Wash Post ^ | 1/21/10 | Howard Kurtz

The executive editor of the National Enquirer says he plans to enter his paper's work on the John Edwards scandal for a Pulitzer Prize.

Don't laugh.

"It's clear we should be a contender for this," Barry Levine said by phone Thursday, hours after the former presidential candidate admitted what the newspaper had been reporting all along: that he is the father of Rielle Hunter's baby. "The National Enquirer, a supermarket tabloid, was able to publish this reporting."

Although the staff never doubted its reports that Edwards had fathered a baby girl with his former campaign videographer, Levine said, "there is vindication, finally. Mr. Edwards kept the story alive much longer than it needed to be kept alive with his denials. He has only himself to blame."

National Enquirer submitting John Edwards coverage for Pulitzers”

No can do.
Wrong Party.
Now if it were a story about a Republican presidential candidate, that would be another matter altogether.

Hey, they tell the truth more often than the MSM. Shoosh, didn’t bammy get a Nobel, whats stopping the National Enquirer getting a Pulitzer. Did the NYT ever return the Pulitzer they won for shilling for Stalin? At least the WaPo recognized their Pulitzer was won on deceit. Just sayin.

John Edwards is one dead horse I don’t mind being beaten. What a total scumbag, and it turns out his wife was no saint, either. She knew what a POS he was all along.

More power to them. At least they do investigative journalism.

“Don't laugh”

Why would we laugh? They should win it. When the LA Times editor puts out a memo even to their bloggers to kill the story, the new newspaper of record was the National Enquirer.

They rate the prize for this story.

They should win it and they deserve it.

Pulitzer winner National Enquirer. Nice sound to it.

Would love to be a fly on the wall in Arthur Sulzberger’s office when it is announced!

don’t laugh.

Why would we laugh. The National Enquirer broke the story, and the rest of the media ignored the information, on purpose at that!

Don’t they use the same judges as the Nobel Peace Prize?

Now if it were a story about a Republican presidential candidate, that would be another matter altogether.

If it had been a Republican, the Nat Enquirer reporter would have been stomped flat before he ever got to write a word by a mob of MSM scribblers trying to be the first to break the story.

The MSM knew the rumors about Edwards, but they were not curious enough to investigate because he was 'one of theirs.'

“Don’t they use the same judges as the Nobel Peace Prize?”

Probably. It’s hard to find enough people with a such a total lack of integrity to fill two committees, let alone one!

Just the act of the Enquirer submitting the story to the Pulitzer committee for consideration would be a huge embarrassment for the dominant media. I would love to see the Enquirer follow through.
