I look at it this way too. We saved them the humility of being 0-5 in Super Bowls.

LOL!

Good luck saints. See you twice next year.

Al Franken is appealing the score to the Minnesota supreme court. Obama has said that the Saints need to work across the aisle to resolve the situation. All officials are to be subpoenaed. Franken says "There will be a recount until it comes out right".

Romo didn’t choke against the Vikes. He didn’t have time. Choking is when you play bad, despite good pass protection.

Favre is the new Romo.

After that rant, we went on to win 9 straight games, and went to the playoffs for the first time, against who else? the Minnesota Vikings(they kicked our butts that day, 44-10).

I'll get the Saints picks up this PM. Picks are coming in from all over, so it will take me a while to get everything up. For those who haven't picked before, let me know if you want a different avatar. So far, these are the Freepers picking the Colts:

Super Bowl Special!!!!
Freepers Picking Colts!
Big Ol Freeper
07 Jack
Rebel Tex
Freedumb 2003

Kevin Davis

And yes. It is possible you made a pick on the thread and I missed it. A Freepmail will work best, cause there are a lot of messages on the NFL thread.

BTW, on the game last night, the Saints made a calculated decision to risk a few roughing calls and try to take Favre out. It was a business decision. The Vikings did the same thing to Romo last week, and would have done it to Brees if they'd been able to get to him. The Cardinals did it to Green Bay and the Saints did it to the Cardinals and the Cowboys did it to the Eagles. I'll guarantee you the Saints saw Favre's post game interview after the Cowboys victory where he said the only part of him that was sore was from holding his arms up in the air signaling touchdown and said, "He won't be saying that after he plays us." I also didn't hear Favre giving too much sympathy to Romo, who was hit after the throw all day against the Vikings. The simple fact is, if you don't want your quarterback hit, protect him.

IMHO, where the Vikings lost the game was when they went conservative while looking at a 53 yard field goal. They needed twenty more yards and went into a shell, acting like they were in range when even without the penalty a FG of that distance is iffy.

After he retires, Favre's legacy will be that he played at a high level for so long. He isn't and never has been "the greatest." However, most QBs, consider Steve McNair, go off a cliff at around 36 at the latest.

If you don’t mind Kimball, I’ll go with the Saints. Can I trade in the blond gremlin for a rusty vega?

Very good analysis of the game.

Perhaps you are unfamiliar with football?

A late hit on a quarterback is one that is launched by a defender that has arrived after the ball has been released. - Only one such hit was launched on Favre during the game, and he was not affected by it. The hits that did affect him were all legitimate because they were launched before, or during his release of the ball.

It is normal for the home crowd to cheer a hit on the opposing quarterback, because such hits are an important part of limiting the passing game. - Whatever palaver you may hear on ESPN should be disregarded, because we know their mission, and it’s not good for football, or for the nation as a whole.

LOL, So far, My picks this postseason have been feast or famine. I either get em all correct or all wrong. I’m due for my bad week next so you should take comfort in me picking the Colts.

The main thing that stuck in my craw last night was the refereeing, particularly on the last catch in overtime that put the Saints in field goal range. The ball clearly hit the ground, and it should absolutely been overturned.

I didn’t however, have a problem with the refereeing on the two big hits Favre took. The first hit, where he was driven to the ground on a late hit, was dirty and deserved what it got - a 15 yard penalty. I don’t think it was anything we don’t see every game, though, and it certainly doesn’t deserve a fine or anything like that.

The second hit - the high-low one that messed up Favre’s leg - was ugly but probably clean. Maybe they planned it, but that’s a bit of a stretch and I’m willing to give the Saints defense the benefit of the doubt.

However, while refereeing may have been a problem, the Vikings still have no one to blame but themselves for losing. I certainly hate to see sudden-death overtime decided by a doubly-bad call (bad call on the field and bad call on review), but it’s the Vikings’ own fault the game ended up in overtime in the first place. You just can’t turn the ball over five times and expect to win the game - it’s as simple as that.

As to Favre not giving much sympathy to Romo, we don’t know what Favre said to Romo during the handshakes after the game, but it sure didn’t look like Favre was talking trash to him.

As for the picks, I’m not sure yet who I’m picking for the Super Bowl. If the Saints defense plays like they did last night, the Colts could be in trouble. I’m not willing to bet against Peyton Manning just yet, though.

Also, I think you’re absolutely right about Favre’s legacy. He doesn’t belong in the top 5 QBs ever, and it’s arguable whether he even belongs in the top 10. I do think he’s one of the best of that generation that had their prime in the 90s. I’d rank him second after Steve Young and before Troy Aikman - assuming of course that you don’t count John Elway or Warren Moon in that group, which you arguably could.

Even though he isn’t one of the greatest ever, his longevity as a top-level QB is a pretty big accomplishment in itself. I think he’ll certainly be remembered as one of the toughest men ever to play the position.

Your analysis is absolutely spot on. The Saints basically said if Brett’s going to beat us, we’re going to beat him up in the process. Well they succeeded in that approach , forcing Farve into making rushed throws and ultimately the biggest mistake in the entire game.
I don’t think I’ll ever figure out where Brett was trying to go with that pass. I don’t really care what he or anyone else says about it after the fact. Fact is he had running room to get to the 30 and get out of bounds. But the beatdown he took all night in his mind made the possibility of running out of the question.
OK, so I give him a flyer on that. BUT with Bernard Berrian standing at the 30 with no one near him and at the sideline makes the FG att around 45 yards if Brett just flipped the ball over to him. This is where there is no room to wiggle an excuse....

Even with the Vikes outgaining the Saints by over 200 yards going into overtime, the turnovers were an absolute killer stopping 3 Viking drives deep in Saints territory and giving the Saints short fields which helped in 2 of the 4 TD’s.

I know loud and clear what the scoreboard reads but you’ll never convince me the better team won last night. It’s not that I’ m a Saints hater or a Viqueens lover(but always a #4 fan, period)and I’m happy for the city, I guess......

It’s all a case of woulda, coulda, shoulda, I know.

Yeah I’ve been saving the helmet all season LOL. When I got up this morning I followed the conversation and (speaking of boneheads) he just wouldn’t let it go no matter who he was talking to. Vikings fans are known for big mouths (with nothing to back it up) and whining so there was nothing unusual about their temper tantrums.

I just hope the fella is okay. Should have been on a suicide watch.

Just hoping some of their fans can recover from the loss.

As a Saints fan, I’m ready for any ribbing dished out.

Have a couple of Cowboy fans that will be gunning for me. LOL.
