White House Toughens Tone
WSJ ^ | 01/24/10 | Jonathan Weisman

Coming off one of the most difficult weeks of his presidency, Barack Obama has beefed up his political staff and is expected to deliver an uncompromising State of the Union address. Aides said Sunday that the White House wasn't making any abrupt policy shifts, even as the message was retooled to focus more sharply on job creation.

If anything, an unfinished agenda from 2009 will grow larger as, in addition to tackling health care and unemployment, the president presses for a bipartisan commission to tackle the budget deficit against resistance from Republicans. ...

The re-emergence of David Plouffe took some Democratic officials by surprise, though officials said he won't have a title and won't be working from the White House. Mr. Axelrod, in emails to The Wall Street Journal, dismissed as "overblown" the speculation that an enhanced role for Mr. Plouffe is a prelude to a shake-up of the political staff or a change of course by the White House. ...

The message Mr. Plouffe is bringing was a collaborative effort by him, White House officials and the leadership of the Democratic National Committee. That message is one of no retreat in the face of polling that shows opposition to the president's push to overhaul health care and discontent with his economic efforts.

Writing in Sunday's Washington Post, Mr. Plouffe said Democrats need to quickly pass a broad health overhaul, get serious about job creation even as they tout the impact of last year's stimulus package, turn up the heat on Republicans over the deficits incurred in the Bush years, and stop grousing about the political climate.

"...turn up the heat on Republicans over the deficits incurred in the Bush years"

Bush averaged about $200 billion/year. The last Republican Congress for FY2007 had a $160 billion dollar budget deficit. The Democrats and Obama have just run up a $1.4 TRILLION dollar budget deficit.

If the Republicans let the Democrat hang upon their necks an average $200 billion dollar budget deficit compared to the Democrats TRILLION dollar budget deficits, then the Republicans deserve to frikin' lose. Morons!

I find it very amusing how these politicians just throw around the term “job creation” and “jobs created” as if a job is something they can just wish into existence.

Jobs are created when people that own businesses and employ other people find it necessary to do so because of economic condition. The only thing a politician can do for “job creation” is to help create those economic conditions, and get the hell out of the way. On the other hand, while a politician can’t do much to create jobs, they can sure as hell easily make sure jobs are lost. Just raise taxes and see what happens.

"The re-emergence of David Plouffe took some Democratic officials by surprise, though officials said he won't have a title and won't be working from the White House."

Who's paying this guy? He's NOT working for free!

Is our tax money paying him?

Maybe this Plouffe guy helped get the kenyan elected, but we have all seen now WHAT was elected, so that makes Plouffe just another obama con-man and any further efforts on obama's or the democrats behalf will just be the continuation of that ruse.

America has GOT to stop falling for this EEO incompetence nightmare called a president.
