Arkansas Congressman Marion Berry to Retire (Another Rat Leaves The Ship!)
Fox News ^ | 01-25-10 | Chad Pergram

Posted on 01/25/2010 8:18:35 AM PST by tcrlaf

Fox has learned that six-term Rep. Marion Berry (D-AR) will retire at the end of this term. Berry is the latest in a long list of both House Democrats and Republicans who have decided to step aside at the end of this Congress.

But Berry's retirement could prove to be particularly vexing for Democrats. Just last week, Rep. Vic Snyder (D-AR) announced his retirement.

And Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) is expected to face one of the toughest re-election campaigns for any Senate Democrat in the country.

This shows a vulnerability for Democrats in the south. And a special weakness in Arkansas, where Snyder and Berry may have seen troubled waters ahead statewide with Lincoln at the top of the ballot. Berry makes his decision even after he confided to FOX last month that he intended to stand for re-election.

The anti-Obama wave is turning in to a tsunami, and a bunch of Democrats want to escape drowning...

I was anti-Obama WAY before it was cool to be anti-Obama. I'm such a trend-setter, doncha' think?

THis is all a Dem strategy—

to keep power in 2010— they want to not spend money in the primaries....let us conservatives dump our time energy and money in primaries so they are prepared for the general elections....

the blue dogs will be where they lay their eggs...per se

I’m a little surprised that he’s retiring. Living in his district, I fully expect that he would have won. The Democrats use class warfare extremely effectively in this area and the people here generally vote on that basis and against their otherwise highly conservative principles.

I don’t know who the Dems will choose to replace him, but, for that reason, I strongly suspect that the Dems will still win the seat.

Soon more Democrats will retire more than the current Republicans. I think 14 Republicans are retiring from the House and 12 Democrats including this guy.

IMO the problem is not how many Republicans retire, but how many conservatives wins the primaries. I don’t have a clue about these 14, hopefully they are Rinos.

I’ve wondered why Hucklebee doesn’t run against Lincoln....Seems like he could do some good in that seat.

Contrary to the opinion of some FReepers, Huckabee couldn't win an election for Dog Catcher in this State.

He knows it too!

Rush also explained that Dems are retiring because if they lose their next election, their value as lobbyists goes away.

With all of the Rats offering to not seek re-election, methinks there should be a congressional audit of the way “business” is being done in DC. The incoming freshmen (of either party) should not be able to find fault with that.

The article cites both dems and repubs as stepping aside.

Does anyone have a count of each?
