Opportunities to "Take Out" Radical Cleric Anwar Awlaki In Yemen "May Have Been Missed"

White House lawyers are mulling the legality of proposed attempts to kill an American citizen, Anwar al Awlaki, who is believed to be part of the leadership of the al Qaeda group in Yemen behind a series of terror strikes, according to two people briefed by U.S. intelligence officials.

One of the people briefed said opportunities to "take out" Awlaki "may have been missed" because of the legal questions surrounding a lethal attack which would specifically target an American citizen.

A spokesperson said the White House declined to comment.

Seems a good time for this joke...

Are you a Democrat, a Republican, or a Redneck?
Here is a little test that will help you decide.
The answer can be found by posing the following question: You’re walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges at you. You are carrying a Kimber 1911 cal. 45 ACP, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

..........................................................
Democrat’s Answer: Well, that’s not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Does the pistol have an appropriate safety built into it?
Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children?
Is it possible he’d be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
Should I call 9-1-1?
Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a concensus.

...........................................................
Republican’s Answer:
BANG!

...........................................................

Redneck’s Answer:
BANG!
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
BANG!
BANG! BANG !
Click...(Sounds of reloading)
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! Click
Daughter: “Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips or Hydrashocks?”
Son: “Can I shoot the next one?”
Wife: “You ain’t taking that to the taxidermist!”

Precisely. He is at war with us. He has jumped sides, is functioning militarily and as an enemy needs to be dealt with that way. The man needs to meet his 72 “near” virgins. The politicians and the company needs to quit debating while lives are being lost, let alone them plotting and assembling bigger jobs.
Send him to the devil and his 72 “virgins”.

Any war that is run by lawyers will be a bloody loss for the nation making such a stupid decision. When soldiers of America and other nations hit the beaches on D-Day, they were not carrying arrest warrants for Fritz, Hans, etc. They were carrying guns, with orders to kill the enemy.

The present administration thinks lawyers, not generals, should be in charge. How stupid is that? Don;t answer that; it's a rhetorical question.

Easy, do not target him, target his assistants. If he gets hit in the collateral damage............oops!

Revoke his citizenship. Problem solved.

Actually, I would think he voluntarily surrendered his citizenship when he took up arms against his nation, its interests and its allies.

I suppose this is only slightly less exasperating than Clinton’s failure to take out Bin Laden because he couldn’t be reached for the final go-ahead due to the Lewinsky he was receiving in the back room.

From deeper in the article:

*********************************EXCERPT********************************

In the case of Awlaki, born in New Mexico and a college student in Colorado and California, a strike aimed to kill him would stretch current Presidential authority given to the CIA and the Pentagon to pursue terrorists anywhere in the world.

The U.S. doesn’t recognize treason as a crime any more. Nor does it require that the President prove eligibility for office. The only crimes are being a Christian, a heterosexual or a person of European ancestry.
