CBS Urged to Scrap Super Bowl Ad With Tebow, Mom

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: January 25, 2010

NEW YORK (AP) -- A national coalition of women's groups called on CBS on Monday to scrap its plan to broadcast an ad during the Super Bowl featuring college football star Tim Tebow and his mother, which critics say is likely to convey an anti-abortion message.

''An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year -- an event designed to bring Americans together,'' said Jehmu Greene, president of the New York-based Women's Media Center.

The center was coordinating the protest with backing from the National Organization for Women, the Feminist Majority and other groups.

CBS said it has approved the script for the 30-second ad and has given no indication that the protest would have an impact. A network spokesman, Dana McClintock, said CBS would ensure that any issue-oriented ad was ''appropriate for air.''

The ad -- paid for by the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family -- is expected to recount the story of Pam Tebow's pregnancy in 1987 with a theme of ''Celebrate Family, Celebrate Life.'' The controversy over the ad was raised Sunday when Tebow met with reporters in Mobile, Ala., before beginning preparations for next weekend's Senior Bowl.

''I know some people won't agree with it, but I think they can at least respect that I stand up for what I believe,'' Tebow said. ''I've always been very convicted of it (his views on abortion) because that's the reason I'm here, because my mom was a very courageous woman. So any way that I could help, I would do it.''

Desperate octave-level whining from feminist leftists who are rapidly becoming obsolete.

Sorry, but this is hilarious. Hypocrisy raised to yet another, higher level.

These same groups step forward every year bemoaning the Super Bowl because (allegedly) domestic violence increases as a result of the game.

And, God knows, there is NOTHING violent about abortion. Is there ?

If CBS caves on this for any reason whatsoever, the game and the network should be permanently boycotted.

Thats right.

How many doctors, ministers, school teachers and scientists have been aborted.

We wouldn’t know. We may have killed the next Albert Einstein or the next Abraham Lincoln.

I hope Tebow has a long NFL career and talks about the Truth of Christ and Life for 25 years.
Here’s prayers out for a long and outspoken career.

I so pray.

MAY GOD ALWAYS BLESS TIM TEBOW AND HIS FAMILY!

Since when was the Superbowl designed to bring people together. LMAO

I don't know about you but this family either hosts a SB party or we go to one....great time for getting with family and friends.

It’s designed to make a great deal of money for two Sports teams and a lot of Gamblers.

You forgot a few things, like the network that shows the event, bars, the house usually makes the money, the companies that run their ads during the event, etc.

Just sayin'........

I can understand why the National Organization for Women, the Feminist Majority and other groups. would be upset since 43 % of American women in this country has had at least one abortion.

Wouldn't want to make them think about the deed they did in killing their unborn child.

Bad for business, you know.........

The publicity that this STUPID and BIASED request generates is accomplishing their goal of getting their name out to the public which, otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to do. As someone else so brightly pointed out, they could buy their own ad, but that would effect their smugness and probably salaries.

I'd MUCH rather see the Tebow ad than another Cialis/Viagra ad. Enough already with those things.

"An ad that uses sports to divide rather than to unite has no place in the biggest national sports event of the year -- an event designed to bring Americans together," said Jehmu Greene...

You mean like how feminist groups use the Super Bowl to divide men and women, by saying it is "the biggest day of the year for violence against women?"

I don’t so much mind ED drug commercials in general. I do mind that Pfizer desecrated a great Elvis Presley song to do a couple of theirs.

Commies and other socialists love to "bring people together" and get them to agree on things. Dead or alive.

Terry O'Neill, the president of the National Organization for Women, said she had respect for the private choices made by women such as Pam Tebow but condemned the planned ad as ''extraordinarily offensive and demeaning.''

There are only two parts of "choose life". Choice, which she says she "respects" and then there is "life"--apparently the one which offends her.

Messed up people. They are attacking Tim Tebow and his mother and then accuse them of creating “division.”

Where was the outrage from the female groups when Janet Jackson flashed her boobs during the Superbowl? How about the NFL being a organization that has high standards. really high standards, drug addicts, ex-convicts and so forth being paid multi millionaire dollar salries. Some professional football players are always getting in trouble. So tebow wants to say something that is personal to him, his mother choose life in spite of the obstacle of death. Yet the NFL was asking in the playoff games this past weekend to text Haiti for relief efforts, celebrating life.

If the women’s groups are upset, let them put up the $$$ and buy time for an ad of their own promoting abortion.

“That’s not being respectful of other people’s lives,” O’Neill said. “It is offensive to hold one way out as being a superior way over everybody else’s.”

This is what was said about the Tebows - from someone who advocates the "right" to kill and dispose of an innocent child's life who is inconvenient to have around. Beyond incredible.

Okay, they’re not saying...go out and shoot abortion doctors. They’re not saying...go out and bomb abortion clinics. They’re not even saying...go out and yell in front of abortion clinics. They’re just saying...the other guys talk about choice, well, just remember you can choose the other way too. That’s controversial?
