Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on Monday offered yet another way California can save on incarcerating illegal immigrants: pay to build prisons in Mexico.
Schwarzenegger said in a Sacramento Press Club speech that rather than raise taxes, the state could find money by cutting pension costs, allowing offshore oil drilling and lowering prison expenditures.
His budget calls for an $880 million infusion from the federal government to pay for housing illegal immigrant prisoners who have committed crimes in California. The governor also wants to rely more on private prison companies.
But he also gave an off-the-cuff suggestion that California send undocumented inmates to Mexico and pay to build and run new prisons there.
"We can do so much better, in the prison system alone, if we can go and take inmates – for instance, the 20,000 inmates that are illegal immigrants that are here – and get them to Mexico," Schwarzenegger said.
"We pay them to build a prison down in Mexico and then we have those undocumented immigrants be down there in the prison," he added. "Half the cost to build the prisons and half the cost to run the prisons. That is money, again, a billion dollars right there that can go into higher education. That is an example of one of the things we do that is unnecessary spending."
Schwarzenegger's idea had not been vetted. The Governor's Office was unable to answer, for instance, whether he would like to send all illegal immigrant prisoners to Mexico or just those who have Mexican citizenship.

Or, why don’t we send them to Guantanamo, it will be empty soon. This way if the illegals escape to Cuba, they’ll at least speak the same language. And most liberals think Cuba has better healthcare than we do, so it’s a win-win for the illegals. Their anchor babies can now keep them in Havana.

I don’t get it. If Mexico cannot restrain its own criminal population, how will they restrain the Californian criminals (themselves, probably mostly Mexican illegals) the Arnie intends to send down there.

It’s too bad that Arnie doesn’t get some real advice, like from the border patrol or NAFBPO, who reports ALL THE TIME about the problems in Mexican Jails, mostly drug cartels breaking their compadres out, riots, jail breaks...with most of the prison officials on the take, prison in Mexico will look good to these criminals because they’ll be out in no time and BACK in California!

It sounds like Ahhhnald was trying to be funny with all these suggestions but they all should be done. Instead of being flip about incarcerating illegals he needs to patrol the border, he has a national guard to do that and he needs to start crippling companies that hire them, cut off the benefits and stop with the bi-lingual nonsense and they'll self deport.
How about enforcing border security and let Mexico pay for the upkeep on their criminals?

All Governor Shriver should do with regards to reforming prisons in Ca, is follow Sheriff Joe’s Footsteps. California has a Giant Desert which would make a wonderful Tent City Prison. Remember Malibu Canyon was built by PRISON INMATES ON THE CHAIN GANG. Bring that style of Punishment back and watch Crime Drop. Not to mention the amount of money Ca will Save

The other we today invite across our border with welfare, free medical care, and more. The centers of many American cities are now controlled by MS-13 and others of the most violent gangs in America’s entire history. These gangs want to kill police and federal agents to rise in reputation among their own kind. Our prisons are now filled with a violent criminal class never seen before anywhere on earth.
In all of the 70 years of the Soviet Union — including the years of the proxy war of Vietnam.— they killed fewer Americans in total than Mexican Illegal Aliens do inside this country in a single year.

Exactly! We live in a high-illegal area. It is an ex post facto sanctuarty by virtual of local (agricultural/Mexican owner) corruption. "They" talk everyday to their brothers, cousins, friends, in Oaxaca; it's not like there is any big secret or there aren't cell phones in every van - "Heyyy cousin come on up and live here in the trailer park."

You’re assuming others don’t? The issue is not one of “muzzies” and their ideology. The issue on this thread concerns California’s belly-up budget status, and a Schwarzenegger’s ineptitude in trying to cut costs.
In case you failed to recognize the “nuances”, Hispanic’s have large families just as “muzzies” do. Hispanic’s, or should I say, illegals, are notoriously involved in the illegal drug trade, which presents a whole other set of problems for our country. Furthermore, these illegals are not beholden, or have sworn allegiance to America. Which explains why HS students will stike Old Glory and raise their colors in protest.

How about just throwing the damned libs in Mexican prisons and calling it even???
If they are illegals to begin with, they should be sent back either in handcuffs and released at the border or if they are convicted murderers and cartel or gang members, push ‘em out the back end of a C130 at 10000 feet over the Gulf of Mexico and call it a fish feeding program. CHutes are optional.

Why not send our prisoners to Russia instead. Siberia already has a hefty supply of prison space that is not currently being used. We wouldn’t have to build anything. After doing time in a Siberian gulag, you will see the rate of recidivism decline considerably.
Move all liberal government to Mexico and seal the border.
