Christopher Buckley Sees the Light on Obama
David Horowitz's NewsRealblog ^ | Calvin Freiburger

Daily Beast columnist Christopher Buckley has clearly inherited his late, great father’s razor-sharp wit and gift for eloquence, but his political sensibilities fell considerably farther from the tree—so much so that he voted for Barack Obama, based on personal disappointment with John McCain, animosity towards Sarah Palin, and the certainty that Obama was too smart to actually believe all the left-wing baloney he espoused.

Well, after a year of Hope n’ Change, we all know how that turned out. And it’s been enough to make Buckley redirect his pen in The One’s direction, penning a satirical early draft of this year’s State of the Union Address:

Tonight I can report to you that the state of the union, on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being excellent, is a 9.8.

Now, you may ask—and I wouldn’t blame you for asking—how I came up with that number. You might be saying to yourself, “Wait a minute. I’ve got no job, no health insurance. My house isn’t worth half the amount of my mortgage, and I just got called up by the National Guard to do a fifth tour in Afghanistan. How the heck did he come up with 9.8?”

So it’s a good and valid question. And the answer is that 9.8 is pretty good, considering the mess my predecessor and the Republicans left me. Fair enough? I think so.

It’s a great piece, skewering everything from Obama’s economic ineptitude, the sleazy healthcare negotiations, politically-correct national security, and more, concluding with a none-too-subtle jab at Obama’s feelings toward the military:

Now, it is customary on these occasions, after offering the American people bromides and yes, even downright lies about how well the nation is doing, to acknowledge American heroes sitting in the gallery.

Anybody who sees the error of his ways, admits it publically, repents and changes, is OK with me.

Christopher Buckley is a fool. Like the rest of the fairies inhabiting the elitist salons of NY and DC, he couldn’t call Obama for what he was, because that would have ruined his cocktail parties.

I thought Buckley was a smart guy. The rest of us could see reality and knew way in advance how this mess would turn out. Yet he and other so called conservatives helped to give B0 some cover so he could say he was getting “bipartisan support.” What a laugh.

On the one hand, it is fundamentally unfair that those of us who voted against Obama have to suffer just as much as those who voted for him.

On the other hand, are people in this thread seriously suggesting that we should permanently shun 53% of the US voting public?

The best thing we as individuals can do, if someone apologizes to us for voting for Obama, is to welcome them back into the fold. Yes they were stupid. All of us do stupid things from time to time. Depending on their other political views, you might very diplomatically suggest that the same people who misled them about Obama might also have misled them about Palin, or conservatives in general.

Getting people to no longer reflexively believe everything CNN tells them about polics is a much more significant victory than getting them to admit Obama is not the second coming of Abraham Lincoln — but this will be accomplished by positive support, not by bashing their apology. And of course the best victory of all is to get people to *think*.

He drank the Kool-Aid and tried to get others to do the same.

It was obvious to anyone with a brain what Obama was.

And then on top of that he slandered Palin at every opportunity.

Let Buckley continue to choke on his choices. He's not welcome back.

For the average voter, yes.

For Christopher Buckley NO.

Buckley used his position to poison the general voter against Palin.

With all due respect, where is the skewering part. The vergiage in your posting contained ONLY the tired, worn-out crap blaming Bush for everything back to and including the San Francisco earthquake and fire.......with NO HINT that it was ACTUALLY meant as a CRITICISM of Obummer.

If you want to flack for Obummer, at least have the ‘nads to come right out and SAY SO!

No, not 53% of the population.

Just the percentage of those that would influence opinion or policy.

They haven’t learned a thing. They are just jumping off now because it’s the “popular” thing to do now.

If they wish to shut up and follow those who were smarter then them they can do that much. But never again should their own opinions be given weight.

Good thing we have geniuses like Christopher. How would us stupid Gomers ever be able to judge anything without their benevolent guidance.

Seriously, it's rather funny how the smart folk were so damn stupid when it came to Obama, and the stupid folk were so damn smart.
