The Anthrax Attacks Remain Unsolved
Wall Street Journal. ^ | 2010 January 24 | Edward Jay Epstein

Posted on 01/26/2010 3:19:58 PM PST by Allan

The investigation of the 2001 anthrax attacks ended as far as the public knew on July 29, 2008, with the death of Bruce Ivins, a senior biodefense researcher at the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) in Fort Detrick, Md.

The cause of death was an overdose of the painkiller Tylenol. No autopsy was performed, and there was no suicide note.

How many lives has the FBI destroyed not looking for a Muslim?

I don't think this was a Muslim attack. I doubt they have the technology to weaponize anthrax. And if they did they surely would have used it again.

I know this comes the day after watching "24" but I wonder if someone got the stuff from the Russian mafia out of an old Soviet lab.

Same old same old. As the FBI knows very well the peculiarities of the addresses on the envelopes were readily explained. Turned out a right to life group called Jews for Life had a newsletter and a website duplicating it.

They had an article in June 2001 that carried a news article with the names and addresses of each of the folks who got an envelope sent to them.

The addresses were written on the envelopes in the peculiar format seen in that newsletter.

So, Ivins wife was an active Right to Life person. I don't know but maybe she belonged to that organization and left a copy of the newsletter around. Maybe her husband took it to his office one day. Maybe he used it to prepare the anthrax attack envelopes. Maybe a co-worker took it to prepare the anthrax attack envelopes and make it look like Jews had done the crime.

I suspect whoever did this thought the FBI was a lot smarter than they really are. On the other hand, maybe the FBI finally backtracked on the report I provided them through the US Postal Inspection Service regarding the location of these addresses in a periodical.

If so, they'd found Ivins wife and found Ivins, and they could have carried on from there.

They'd also have sent me the $7,200,000 reward they have out for "information leading to ..... blah, blah, blah", but they haven't which means THEY DON'T KNOW and they've got doubts about Dr. Ivins!

BTW, I'm not the guy who discovered the address formats, but I did discover the other interesting relationships the periodical had to the circumstances.

My initial suggestion to investigators was they review the mailing list for the organization in question, and see if they could cross correlate that with any of the gaggle of people who hung around with Barbara Hatch Rosenberg ~ my primary suspect!

Actually, there is some investigation which seems to indicate that Abdul Rauf acquired the stuff at Iowa State University. Raised my curiousity because ISU destroyed all of their material just about a month after 9/11.

Why wasn’t this solved? Because it was connected to Iraq....

Interesting read, thanks. And in the WSJ, to boot.

I know that the FBI is corrupt, and incompetent, and likes to do coverups. But you’d think they’d want to get this investigation over with.

Looks like the FBI concluded the stuff wasn't from Iowa.

When it eventually is revealed that the Anthrax attack was really the result of Islamic terrorism, I think we will need to have a sober discussion on the how politics got in the way of common sense in the Justice Department (Cough, cough, Black Panthers).

There have been accidental ODs on acetominephin. It takes a lot but some people get a lot without realizing it. It is in just about all the over-the-counter “relief” nostrums and is part almost all the prescribed painkillers.

Iraq purportedly did. They also purchased a silicon compound from Germany for their weaponization process.

In my opinion, Hussein is still the most likely culprit.

I’ve heard a rumor that the U.S. government knew the source of the anthrax attacks early on, and moved against the responsible party. According to the rumor, GWB warned the guilty party that any further WMD attack would result in a U.S. nuclear attack on Mecca — which is why no further such attacks have been launched.

You can contact the organization if you want. The exhibit is no longer on the internet. I have a copy of it somewhere in my own archives.

The FBI has not yet delivered my reward of course ~ which pretty much tells you who they think did the job.
