Leadership Test For Obama: Obama must regain public trust to move his agenda
Miami Herald ^ | 1/27/2010 | Editorial Staff

Posted on 01/27/2010 5:31:11 AM PST by IbJensen

President Obama delivers his first State of the Union speech tonight to a wary nation. He must reconnect with voters who elected him less than 15 months ago on the promise that he would fix the economy, heal Washington's partisan divide and reject the back-room deal-making that prevails on Capitol Hill.

On the first promise, he has made some progress. The economy has yet to recover its footing, but Mr. Obama's efforts stopped the slide and fended off an even worse recession. In pushing through a stimulus package and keeping the auto industry alive, the president moved swiftly and boldly, fulfilling the promise of leadership.

But when it came to an overhaul of the healthcare system, he faltered badly. He delegated too much control to Democratic pols in Congress, who presided over a messy debate that resembled a bargaining session in a Third World bazaar more than a law-making procedure that will affect one-sixth of the nation's economy. Some of this sausage-making is inevitable, but Mr. Obama can be faulted for not being engaged, allowing ``death panels'' and other phony issues to get traction.

Inevitable, too, is partisanship. Too many Republicans in Congress seem to represent a knee-jerk ``rejectionist front.'' But Mr. Obama could have helped his own cause by making some concessions to the GOP, such as including tort reform in the healthcare overhaul.

Mr. Obama insists that he gets it -- too many people are out of work, frustrated with the lack of progress in the economy, and concerned about skyrocketing national debt created by two wars and a host of well-meaning programs to help the unemployed.

As part of his new plan to reach out to the middle class, the president will offer a modest plan to freeze some government spending to reduce the flow of red ink while increasing tax credits for child care. But on the eve of his speech, the Senate rejected a plan to create a commission that would offer ways to slash future deficits, signaling the political difficulty that lies ahead.

Above all, Mr. Obama should not give up on healthcare reform. His party lost a key election in Massachusetts, but that does not erase the need to fix a broken system. The Senate proposal -- similar to Massachusetts' universal coverage plan -- makes vital improvements like ending the practice of denying coverage to people with pre-existing conditions, banning annual or lifetime spending limits, and controlling costs.

Mr. Obama, a gifted campaigner, now has to show Americans that as president he's fighting for Main Street and that healthcare reform is as much about making insurance affordable as it is about fixing the economy and staggering federal deficits.

...a gifted campaigner...

Obummer isn't gifted at anything, especially oration! Rather the electorate includes too many clueless idiots who have become useful to the conversion of this republic to communism!

Get a clue Miami Herald, the reason obama isn’t trusted is because of his agenda and so the only way to regain trust is to dump the agenda, and focus on kicking Iranian and terrorist arse, lowering taxes, arresting Bill Ayers, and giving George Soros the finger. If bambi does all that, I still won’t trust him but I will stop calling him names.

Good comment from the Miami Herald site:

Wondering just what Obama thinks the “State of the Union” is referring to. He doesn’t know if it refers to the AFL-CIO, UAW or SEIU. From what I can, those are the only unions he’s concerned about.

How does a habitual liar regain the public trust? People will be hiring Bernie Madoff to handle their portfolios before Obamao regains the public trust.

Obama must regain public trust to move his agenda - Miami Herald ^ | 1/27/2010 | Editorial Staff

And Obama must drop his agenda to regain the public trust.

Catch-22

To "Editorial Staff": I wouldn't sign my name to the stupid article either.

I trust him. I trust that he will stick to his Marxist agenda and continue to lie his way to the destruction of the US.

Me neither. Basically, the "Pide Piper's' flute is clogged, and the lemmings are now waking up at the edge of a 2000 ft cliff in the middle of a very nasty, flooding, high wind thunderstorm.

The lemmings are just now becoming concerned they actually perish.

You can’t regain something you never had with half of the American public. I would never trust zer0 being a garbage man in the neighborhood.

“O” must come to the realization that he is a Communist leader who is leading a country which is NOT Communist.

The hyper-democracy as practiced by Liberals, has handed America a back-as$ wards, bloodless political revolution.

As with all ill-conceived and poorly implemented political changes, the whole inverted and illegitimate phenomena which has resulted is flawed, frail and so feeble that no one (not even its functionaries) has confidence in it.

Everyone one of them has the look and manner of bank robbers who succeeded in getting the money and escaping detection but now, cannot agree about their next move. This whole sneaky and irreverent circus can’t end soon enough. “O” has turned the American government and national policy into broad farce… ENOUGH!!

Until/unless he comes to THAT understanding, he is wasting his time and ours where he is.

Expect NOTHING good for America from this ‘administration’ because “O” is just marking time until he is replaced.

Obummer must come to the realization that he is leading a country where millions despise him and his plans to complete the ruination of America.

“The economy has yet to recover its footing, but Mr. Obama’s efforts stopped the slide and fended off an even worse recession.”

I am getting so SICK of this lie. But then I thought, “Hey, let’s run with it, too.” After all, if he “fixed” the economy, it’s now his, as in he owns any further downturns! And his socialist garbage ensures there will be further downturns - bad ones!

"obama must regain public trust to move his agenda"

If he's lucky, he MIGHT get some of the MSM to rally back around him, but I don't think the people will be there for him.

The "boy who cried wolf" has told way too many lies and fairy tales to be taken seriously about anything. I think most of the people who surround him are just waiting for him to finish hanging himself so they don't get accused of racism.

The kenyan has no leadership ability past running a really slick three card monte scheme and using EEO arm twisting to extort money out of banks and corporations...all your standard "community organizer" (a.k.a. poverty pimp) skills.

We won't hear anything tonight that we haven't already heard time and time again. He cannot let a hyped-up event like this go by without loads of self-aggrandizing praises and adorations.

I mean when offices everywhere are setting up pools with bets about how many times he will use "I" and "ME", his pattern is pretty well known to all. A leopard can't change his spots, and a narcissist cannot change his spin.

The only thing I think he could do tonight that would truly surprise everyone is to show us his long form birth certificate...any bets on that one?

Just like the womanizer husband who has been caught cheating and is begging his wife to take him back.
He is doing so, hoping that her trust and love will be enough.

If the wife knows that he had a one time fling and has never done that before and in all other areas of their marriage can be trusted, she might want to try and save the marriage by taking him back.

If the wife knows he has done this sort of thing again and again and just happened to get caught this once, the chances of him changing are non existent. She would be a fool to take him back.

We all know that Obama since Chicago was been a far left liberal and a serial liar and has accomplished nothing on his rise to power. We know he is hiding his childhood from the American people and we know nothing about his life before the age of 30.

American’s willing to trust him again would be fools, he didn’t make one little mistake, America has already forgiven and turned a blind eye to many many things. His relationships with domestic terrorists and communists that are bent on overthrowing our government and his lack of experience. We deserve him if they do.
