Former Obama economic advisor, Clinton Secretary of Labor, and Berkely Prof. Robert Reich claimed yesterday in his column at Salon.com that Fox News played a role in the conservative resurgence of 1994:
In December 1994, Bill Clinton proposed a so-called middle-class bill of rights including more tax credits for families with children, expanded retirement accounts, and tax-deductible college tuition. Clinton had lost his battle for healthcare reform. Even worse, by that time the Dems had lost the House and Senate. Washington was riding a huge anti-incumbent wave. Right-wing populists were the ascendancy, with Newt Gingrich and Fox News leading the charge. Bill Clinton thought it desperately important to assure Americans he was on their side.
But Prof. Reich overlooked one minor detail: Fox News Channels first broadcast wasnt until October 7, 1996.
The plan for FNC wasnt even outlined until January of 1996, so what could explain such a patently false claim? Is the professor suggesting that even in 1994, Fox News imminence did in fact play a role in the political upheaval of that year? Or is this a moment where Fox Derangement Syndrome enters the realm of full-blown paranoia?
Either way, where was Salon on this one to save Reich from himself? And would Prof. Reich tolerate fact-checking this poor from his college students?
The story is fake but true. Remember, progressives never let a pesky thing like the truth get in the way of their propaganda.
Glenn Beck needs comment on this.
These guys say whatever they want without ever checking their facts first. They just assume that the people are so stupid that they will believe everything they say without question.
Actually FDR got on TV to tell us that the British are coming.
I think it was something like that.
Another Ivy League “in - ti - leckshul.”
Fail. Lies and BS is the liberal MO.
They know their base very well.
I don't remember the exact quote, but that does sound something like Sheriff Joe's statement. It's amazing that liberals keep trying to pass their politicians off as intelligent. Most have difficulty walking and breathing at the same time.
Yep, you just described the liberal left voter.
I never realized how easy it was to be an intellectual. I thought you actually had to know stuff, not just SAY stuff. My dumb.
I know where my "respect" comes from: my parents respect for their doctor, lawyer, pastor, or other person with advanced degrees.
Then in school, I was taught to respect my teachers, principal, etc. and on to college and the same applied.
Now as an adult for many years, I find that I am usually more intelligent than especially those who make it a practice (many times) to let everyone know how intelligent they are (they are always backed up by the slavish MSM.)
“And would Prof. Reich tolerate fact-checking this poor from his college students?”
Absolutely, but only if they were parotting the “proper” leftist/marxist bilge...
“This idiot is a professor? Posting an article on a political activist website is one thing. Posting an article on a political activist website WITH NO BASIS IN FACT, is grounds for academic censure, in my opinion.”
Hell, Reich did far worse. He went on show after show, claiming to be a Professor, when in reality, he was an “Instructor”....equivalent to a graduate school nobody. Not ANY kind of Professor. Harvard ordered him to cease and desist, or they would fire him. LMAO!
