Former Obama economic advisor, Clinton Secretary of Labor, and Berkely Prof. Robert Reich claimed yesterday in his column at Salon.com that Fox News played a role in the conservative resurgence of 1994:
In December 1994, Bill Clinton proposed a so-called middle-class bill of rights including more tax credits for families with children, expanded retirement accounts, and tax-deductible college tuition. Clinton had lost his battle for healthcare reform. Even worse, by that time the Dems had lost the House and Senate. Washington was riding a huge anti-incumbent wave. Right-wing populists were the ascendancy, with Newt Gingrich and Fox News leading the charge. Bill Clinton thought it desperately important to assure Americans he was on their side.
But Prof. Reich overlooked one minor detail: Fox News Channels first broadcast wasnt until October 7, 1996.
The plan for FNC wasnt even outlined until January of 1996, so what could explain such a patently false claim? Is the professor suggesting that even in 1994, Fox News imminence did in fact play a role in the political upheaval of that year? Or is this a moment where Fox Derangement Syndrome enters the realm of full-blown paranoia?
Either way, where was Salon on this one to save Reich from himself? And would Prof. Reich tolerate fact-checking this poor from his college students?
That demented dwarf would say anything to advance socialism...
Ping, ping, ping!
I’ll second that. Double plus Busted! Hah!
This idiot is a professor? Posting an article on a political activist website is one thing. Posting an article on a political activist website WITH NO BASIS IN FACT, is grounds for academic censure, in my opinion.
If someone knowingly passes off something like this as fact and can be so easily debunked, I would request a review of everything that professor has ever written, academic or otherwise.
This garbage with “academics” getting involved with political speech is nauseating. Stick to academic, peer-reviewed work. You’re obviously incapable of thinking on your feet.
It’s Bush’s fault
It’s FoxNews fault
It’s Abraham Lincoln’s fault
It’s George Washington’s fault
It’s Columbus’ fault
blah blah blah
Cmon, liberals live in a fantasy world. In Reich’s world, Fox did exist in 1994, and in 1968/72 to elect Nixon, and in 1980/84 to elect Reagan. Fox has always existed.
“The truth means nothing to the man.”
I would phrase it, “The truth means nothing to the biological male.”
If that’s a man, I’m turning in my man cards.
If ever a guy was to small to see the big picture it is Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeiiiiiiiiiichhhhhh.
I GUESS HE GOT TOO MANY KNEE-JERK REACTIONS IN THE FACE................
He meant to say Newt Gingrich and Rush Limbaugh. Minor slip of the tongue. You can see how Rush Limbaugh and Fox News sounds the same, dont you?
Reich is SHORT on brains too!
And he’s often described by lefties as an ‘intellectual’. Apparently he’s too smart to check his facts to see if they have any basis in reality. Was his editor asleep, or did Reich slip the article in under his nose (wouldn’t be difficult when you are a Munchkin)?
