Treasury civil servants grappling with the recession and record deficit have been given a 71-page document to cope with stress which includes messages such as learn to laugh at yourself and a six-point lesson in how to relax your thighs".
The taxpayer-funded brochure is available to employees to help them cope with life in the Treasury.
It states at one point that stress may be avoided if I allow myself to make mistakes recognising that sometimes I will make mistakes and that it is OK to make mistakes.
With Labour saddling the country with a deficit of £178 billion, opposition MPs last night said it was clear the top minds at the Treasury had taken the advice to heart.
Grant Shapps, the Conservative MP who uncovered the document - An Introduction to Stress Awareness and Management - said the weighty advice brochure showed that the Government was not focused on the correct issues.
He said: The Government is clearly under pressure but rather than deal with its record £180bn deficit it has opted to issue advice to staff encouraging them to postpone difficult decisions until later and helpfully reminding them to check that they are still breathing throughout the day.

That paints a picture.
Treasury officials sitting around with relaxed thighs and laughing at their mistakes.
Isn't the IRS part of the Treasury Department?
Do you think they would tell a taxpayer that "it is OK to make mistakes"?
I mean other than saying it to their boss, the tax cheat?
You know I really hate clicking on a thread only to find out it’s not happening here.
I really wish there was some way that a country designation could show up in the title like (UK) so I don’t get stressed and waste my time.
And before you think I’m picking on you, FoxNews.com does the same dang thing on it’s front page.
No no no!....that image is now in my head! Stop! Stop!!!!
Best laugh I’ve had all day... And when I’m finished, I think I’ll start to cry....
I got a good laugh this morning when I saw vanders9's reply in post 6.
I thought I’d managed to banish it from my head, but the pictures are now back...
