Obama to Call for 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' Repeal, Adviser Says By Laurie Ure, CNN Pentagon Producer January 28, 2010
In 2008, more than 100 retired generals and admirals called for a DADT repeal. Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has called for a review of the policy. During the 2008 presidential election, then-candidate Barack Obama promised to end the DADT policy.
Obama, as president, has been criticized by GLB groups for not pushing harder to get the law repealed.
Military statistics indicate that from 1997 to 2008 -- over 10,500 service members have been discharged under the law.
Servicemembers Legal Defense Network -- an organization providing legal help -- say over 13,000 GLB members have been discharged since 1994.
"As a nation built on the principal of equality, we should recognize and welcome change that will build a stronger more cohesive military," said Shalikashvili. His letter was sent to Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York, who supports repealing the policy. House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, flatly disagreed with the idea of ending it. "When it comes to 'don't ask don't tell,' frankly, I think it's worked very well. And we just ought to leave it alone," he said to reporters Wednesday morning.

I’ve got your backside said the Private Dick to Private Johnson
What if he announced his resignation tonight?
That’s 30 Blue dog seats right there, IMO.......
Anything to hurt America.
That’s also an assurance of 1/2 billion dollars in campaign contributions to con the masses.
He just keeps stepping in it doesn’t he?
If I don’t ask, but someone tells, that puts images and opinions in my head that are not positive for me, my fellow service personnel and the homosexual.
Just shut up and serve.
Funny kinda populism he’s got there.
Why doesn’t he just nominate Zoe Baird for something if he wants to duplicate the failed early years of the Clinton admin.
Do you think we may end up with a buggery platoon? If the Jihadists capture any of them, televised “death by stoning” won’t be pretty
Wow! Thank God he’s finally focusing on the important stuff. /snark
F*ck up the military, now deployed in two wars and in need of strong leadership! Who is this guy’s advisor? What a schmuck.
Bill clinton started right out, his first day in office, with an Executive Order authorizing gays in the military. But he quickly had to back off, and finally compromised with “Don’t ask, don’t tell.” Clinton signed that policy.
Obama is clearly feeling the heat, because he promised his gay supporters that he would give them the earth, and then seemed to forget what he said. If he loses the gays, he loses a major constituency.
But this is a hell of a stupid time to come out with this. Couldn’t be worse. He and his advisers really are dumb as rocks.
Obama is the new Hitler. Except, fortunately for us, he is dumb, dumb, dumb. He can’t even go to the men’s room without a teleprompter.
Wow, he couldn’t be getting any worse advise. This thing is going down like the Titanic.

I think he is scared of Hillary. His reputation is tanking so fast he think’s there may be a chance of a challenge in the primary.
This shores him up with the radical base, and reminds them that the Clintons are responsible for DADT.
Given the upcoming November elections, I doubt this will pass muster with Congress. But if by some quirk it does, one can expect many officers resigning their commissions and enlisted men getting out when their enlistments expire.
I suppose that then barracks can be done up in pink.
