The Republican Response to Obama
1.27.10 | Invisible Ninja

Posted on 01/27/2010 7:53:23 PM PST by Invisible Ninja

OK, no doubt Obama's speech was full of glaring inaccuracies, and ridiculous viewpoints, and yawning Harry Reid with a couple of bones thrown toward the Republicans. The end of his speech was filled with some inspirational rhetoric about the spirit of America, that will probably mean nothing substantive. However, and I think I may be blasted for this, but did the Republican response look like an infomercial complete with pre-rehearsed jokes? It seems like the only thing missing was the Power Juicer product. It seemed fake. The setting, in my humble opinion, was quite ridiculous, and makes the Republicans looks like small beans compared to the President and his audience. I would have preferred Bobby Jindall popping out of a closet. It would be great for someone who is articulate, not that the Gov of Virginia wasn't articulate, but someone who can show that our philosophy of conservatism doesn't have to be sugarcoated for it to have merit. It stands on its own.

Am I wrong?

Yes you are dead wrong. McDonnell was VERY impressive, and even presidential. For once Americans get a sharp contrast between the loser-in-chief and a real leader.

Even at DailyKos they are stunned at the effectiveness of the setting, and even how multicultural it all looked. Genius. Which means Mike Steele probably had nothing to do with it.

Ninja may be wrong but isn’t a troll IMHO (based on posting history). Let’s not be too hasty with the Zot Stick...

Yes, you’re wrong. It was an excellent speech and in fact, was much more presidential than the failed One.

You're being intellectually dishonest. Although I disagree with 100% of Obama's speech, he oratorically whooped us. And that staged, bumbling response we gave didn't come close to rebutting the lies of Obama.

So the new Republican Governor of VA gave the response? Um, McConnell is it?

I think it was pretty good to have a live audience. I think the could have spent a minute talking about how the Federal Govt. was fashioned after VA. I would have also would have found some more quotes from VA Founding Fathers, maybe a Patrick Henry quote too. Then tie it back to the present.

Both speeches had too much filler, obviously Obama’s had more. He should have just gotten to the point, he didnt blast health care until a few minutes in. He looked good, nice surroundings but man just get to the point.

Even the republican doesnt need to waste time on “America is still great, you gave to Haiti, yada yada yada.”

And he didn’t blast Obama enough.

The entire notion of the other Party response is nonsense anyway.

Obama’s speech, he oratorically whooped us.

What is wrong with you?
People who watched both speeches knew what was real and what was not.
Stop trying to stir up trouble.

Yep, You are dead wrong. Gov. McDonnell’s response of ten minutes blew away the empty suit speech coming from the socialist Potus Barack Hussein Obama.

"The GOP response was sheer genius, an upbeat speech before a diverse and appreciative audience in a historic location."

I'm going with genius as well. It's surprising no one thought of it before. Even the dolts on PBS thought it was a good idea and well executed.

Not having heard McDonnell's response, I can't speak to that, but I *did* hear Obama's speech on the radio, and I find it hard to believe he "oratically whooped" anyone with it. Even ignoring its obvious fact-free and dishonesty-heavy content, from a rhetorical standpoint, Obama's speech was terrible. His whole speech was a series of glib talking points, delivered in that strange stilted manner he has when he's ticked off about something and/or trying to posture to make himself sound like a tough guy. He didn't flow well, seemed very jerky in his delivery, and seemed to use colloquial-sounding interjections at inappropriate times. Not a good speech. For those who saw it on TV, was he using TOTUS?

“I think McDonnell was upbeat and kudos for mentioning the Terrorists”

And I liked the upbeat kudos to the generosity of the American people and their response to the earthquake in Haiti. But speaking as a woman, the speech would have been even better delivered by Scott Brown wearing his New England barn jacket standing next to his truck...lol

Thanks much. I’m no troll. I count on Freepers to enlighten me alot! I’m a totally conservative. Pro Life. Pro Israel. Pro Gun. I just want our side to be effective. The culture in America has shifted left, and Republicans have been too weak to show how their philosophy is not DNC Lite. I’d love Hannity or Beck to teach them something about communication. And i’m not blaming McConnell. I give public speeches on a regular basis, and it is difficult. I should be preparing for one right now. But we have to connect. And if folks like Daily KOS is stunned, then good. All the better. Thanks for letting me know I’m wrong. Perception, in the political world, is reality. (That’s unfortunate, considering the left-wing media distorts it). By the way, that only works (or actually doesn’t work), in the political world, there is such a thing as absolute truth. Thanks again everyone for straightening me out. :)

It was rhetorically speaking, a great speech well delivered.

It was, indeed.

And it will gain him an immediate 5-pt bump in the polls.

However, the gain will dissipate over the following week -- as people realize he didn't mean a word of it.

The man can read a teleprompter and deliver a great speech. And there are a number of people -- even here on on FreeRepublic -- who believe that is what defines a good President. That...and graduating from a "first class school".

However, those qualifications can produce...an Obama.

Is Mike Steele still around? Obama didn't help himself tonight. The Alito response was great too.
