I'm in Covington about 40 miles N of Memphis. Getting tons of snow. My daughter is in Bartlett and is getting a lot of freezing rain.

My family in OKC just off of I40 and Choctaw is getting snow and looks like there is no end in sight.

I looked that up, Feb 28 ‘09. But we only had about under 2 inches in Nashville (less than what we’ve gotten since this morning). I find it astonishing a foot could’ve fallen further South.

Here in Cheatham County, about 20 miles from Clarksville, it looks like a Winter Wonderland. I live in the country and our roads aren’t salted. Its all white...roads, yard, mailbox, the pond...Soooo glad it happened on a Friday so we can enjoy it for a few days!!

I’d have never guessed you were from Cheatham County.

It’s coming down lightly, but consistently here. It’s now covered the tops of the grassblades (a rarity these days). The highest prediction I saw was for 6 inches, but I’ll believe it when I see it. We used to get a (relatively) lot of snow in the winter season prior to the late ‘80s, but snow has been rare and we’ve had warmish winters since (I believe we hit 60 earlier in the week).

Well, on Wednesday we hit 60 degrees for a high in Tulsa, and I had already been posting for a day prior that we were getting an ice storm in Oklahoma. Everyone was rushing the stores on Wednesday in 60-degree weather with clear blue skies, such a beautiful day.

One day later, there was freezing rain, and ice building up and it hasn't been above freezing since then... :-)

So, it was weird to be rushing about for an ice storm/snow storm in 60-degree weather with not a cloud in the sky (at least at one point in the day, it was clear...).

If we get to 6 inches, that might be the single largest amount in one shot in probably close to 25 years. We get 1 inch in TN (excluding the Mountains in the East, which is a different story), and everybody goes into panic mode, that’s how rare the snowfall has become.
Do let us know what you get, and for all the rest of y'all in the state, keep us all up-to-date as to what's going on in your corner of this state... :-)

A couple of inches of snow mixed with sleet in Estill Springs (not far above the TN/AL state line). Very slushy stuff. With temps not supposed to get above freezing until Mon. at the earliest, it’ll make for some nasty driving conditions. It’s still better than being clobbered by an ice storm!

Oh, and one more thing... we’ve already picked up six inches of snow here in Tulsa, since just before noon today. And it looks to me that it will go to maybe 8 to 10 inches, if it keeps it up for another few hours...

Good luck with the ice and Thanks for the thread updates..

I'm hoping that y'all in Tennessee will keep up the weather updates, since I'm not there... :-)

I'm in Tulsa and am just continuing the various "state postings" and getting those threads going. I hope those people in the respective states can bring us in reports.

Bureaucrats actually closed schools in Owensboro, KY today, based upon the forecast of this “winter storm.” The only flakes anyone has seen are on TV!

Well, the funny thing about that, is that here in Oklahoma, they were talking about the coming possible ice storm when this storm was still out in the Pacific Ocean... LOL...

And then, I was posting about the coming ice storm on a day when the high was 60 degrees, it was sunny and nice and not a cloud in the sky... hoo-boy!

Things do change fast...

I am in Mississippi across from McNairy County.

Y'all ought to start a Mississippi thread then, on this big storm... I'm trying to get some other states started right now... :-)

I don't know how far down into the state it's going there, but it is apparently affecting at least part of the state.

Down here in Maury County (Columbia) I now have over 8 inches of snow as measured on my front sidewalk. The snow has stopped and now the ice pellets are falling.

We received over 4 inches of snow between 9:30a.m. and 12:30p.m. The snow then started slowing until the ice pellets kicked in about 3:00p.m.

This is my front yard at 12:30p.m. looking down the road. Sidewalk with snow
Those steps (barely visible at the bottom of the photo) are now (at 4:40p.m.) completely covered.

We were watching WSMV at noon and couldn't believe how little snow Nashville had gotten. It seems as if the storm shifted somewhat to the south, as Columbia was predicted to get only 1-3 inches of snow during last nights 6:00p.m. news broadcast. Oh well... I don't mind the snow... But the 1/4 inch of ice that is underneath it can be a problem if I really did have to go anywhere.

Stay safe, stay armed,

First it was the ice and now it's the snow... :-)

Since around noon today, in Tulsa, we've picked up six inches of snow... that's about five hours ago. And it looks like we might be going to 8 or 10 inches if it keeps up like this for another few hours... hoo-boy!

Yeah, that’s amazing you guys had that much dumped on you, especially considering you’re south of us. The snow didn’t even completely cover the top of the grass until maybe 1 or 2 pm. It’s still very light snowfall, we didn’t have it super-heavy, just light and consistent. It looks like it’s at around 2 1/2 inches as of about 5pm.

The worries of some of that ice you’re receiving may move north and hit us overnight, and that will be a mess. Even with our “modest” 2 inches, there had been about 60 traffic accidents reported (on the 4pm news on WKRN). My street gets priority to be cleared because it is an emergency vehicle route, so the salt trucks came by earlier in the afternoon. For a little while, the cars were driving just at or slightly below the speed limit, but they’re clearly going much slower now.
