Bill Gates makes world's biggest ever single charitable donation
Daily Mail ^ | 29th January 2010 | Mail Foreign Service

Bill Gates made the largest ever single charitable donation when he pledged $10billion (£6billion) to develop and distribute vaccines. The Microsoft founder hopes the money, to be spent over the next ten years through his foundation, will save the lives of more than eight million children in the world's poorest countries. 'We must make this the decade of vaccines,' he said. 'Vaccines already save and improve millions of lives. 'Innovation will make it possible to save more children than ever before.'

Doesn’t saving human lives contribute to Global Warming?

As long as this is his own money and he isn’t running around demanding that big brother take it from others, more power to him.

Do not joke. Bill Gates is a hero, and more conservative of many republicans in Office.

If this measure alleviates a sense of crisis, ironically the left will hate him MORE, not less. Lefties NEED emergencies and death —in this way they can rob folks.

They will REALLY make him PAY for this...

Wait, the title is misleading, he did “make” a donation, he only “pledged” it. So I think I might pledge $1,000,000,000. And my money wasn’t made based on ill gotten gains from selling crappy software based on QDOS software bought off some poor guy for $50k and rebranding it, my money is just made up money.

Good start, but a long way to go before he atones for Windows ME.

I know, it was kind of an ‘in general’ statement. Last time I checked, I think his net worth was in near $100 Billion and I’m sure a lot of that was liquid as, frankly, it is not easy to spend that much.

Agree. His money, his agenda. I just dont want to be lectured about helping the poor overseas when a huge number of Americans are unemployed.

Chances are he’s already established in the bosom of various countries like India and China and there’s nothing the lefties can do to hurt him or Microsoft.

While it's certainly admirable to endeavor to vaccinate the world's children, $10 billion might be better invested in businesses in those countries so that they can grow their own respective economies and buy the vaccinations - perhaps even develop the vaccinations - for themselves.

Of course, that's not popular with the globalist crowd because an investment might actually return a dividend in the form of profit. That would be horrible because money and profit are evil. It's sad that a guy who's presumably as smart as Gates buys into such rubbish.

And this kind of giving would happen even more often if government wouldn’t try to steal it all first.

Anyway this article was written by a mad liberal (or a mad liberal) against Silvio Berlusconi (sic!). Why liberals are so stupid? They are not interested in what Bill Gates has done. that’s the truth.

Maybe he sees that if he directly contributes to vaccinations, it would go to that. A lot of time when money is given to these third word governments, the despots just use it for themselves to keep their thumb on their people.

Yes it would. The ‘evil rich’ are the biggest philanthropists.

This country going to hell in a hand basket and he spends the money overseas. I mean he is free to do what he wants and all, but wouldn’t it be better to put this money into something sustainable, like a business here in the USA? I mean this country gave him everything he has in terms of opportunity and he spends the money elsewhere.

He is free to do what he wants and I would never try and force him to do otherwise. I even would rather see him spend the money that way than have it confiscated by our government when he dies. But spend the money HERE please Mr. Gates.
