Tea Party Requests Republicans Back Patrick Hughes In Illinois Senate Race

Posted on 01/29/2010 3:10:07 PM PST by TitansAFC

Conservatives, Tea Partiers, and 912 organizations need to make the hard decision to coalesce around a conservative candidate to mount any type of challenge to the GOP’s liberal candidate, Mark Kirk. When there are numerous conservative candidates splitting the conservative vote, the liberal candidate will win. The only Conservative Republican candidate for Senate that has resources, message, and organization to mount a challenge to Mark Kirk is Patrick Hughes. He needs all Conservative votes to defeat Kirk in the GOP primary and to drive the Conservative message forward to Victory in the General Election. With four good conservatives in the race, we need to understand that the Conservative cause is much larger than any individual candidate.

The Will County Tea Party Alliance Candidates Forum probed the candidates on the three pillars of running a successful campaign, Message, Money, and Organization. Only Patrick Hughes has all three. The other Conservative Republican Senate candidates are polling less than 1% with no finances and no organizations. This makes it impossible for them to make any type of strong strategic surge with such a short time till the primary election. A vote for anyone other than Hughes is a vote for Mark Kirk. Because of the large number of undecided’s there is a definite opportunity for Hughes to overcome Kirk. When more information is given about Patrick Hughes’s stand on the issues, voters will support him. Most voters indicate they consider themselves Conservative. Americans, are fed up with liberal spending, extreme views on social issues, attacks on traditional America, support of foreign nations over the United States, and giving non-citizens the same rights as citizens, just to mention a few.

The media is starting to show some interest in the Illinois Senate race because of a recent Wall Street Journal Poll that has party favorable rankings as the following: Tea Party 41%, Democrats 35%, Republicans 28%. Patrick Hughes is the candidate that best represents that 41% and 28% here in Illinois. The Joliet Tea Party, Homer-Lockport Tea Party, Will County Tea Party Alliance, Rockford Tea Party, and Effingham Tea Party have all recently thrown their support behind the Hughes campaign. If we are to take back our State from corrupt, mega spending politicians with an Agenda the majority of people are against, we need to support Patrick Hughes.

I got an e-mail from the Independence Caucus: “This past weekend, Illinois I-caucus members endorsed Judge Don Lowery in Illinois and I am excited to see such a stellar candidate emerge from the vetting process.

“Here’s problem #1: Mark Kirk is the front runner, and the choice of the Republican party establishment...and Kirk is currently a Representative who voted for TARP and was one of only 8 Republicans to vote for Cap and Trade which you may recall passed by only 7 votes.

“Here’s problem #2: There are several challengers who are all currently splitting votes amongst themselves which is working to Mark Kirk’s advantage

“Here’s problem #3: A lot of media types, even some of the Fox News media types, are touting Patrick Hughes as the “tea party” or “grass roots” candidate...but Hughes is not the true fiscally responsible constitutional candidate in this race!”

It could be that Judge Lowery has too little support to be elected, but here are a couple of pertinent links:

Lowery? Why pimp a candidate who’s sitting at 1-2% in the polls - when the election is four days away. Hughes is at 20%, maybe higher. Might as well go with Hughes.

Lowery is unknown.

Every Conservative media outlet and organization is supporting Hughes.

It’s time to get behind the leading option. It just so happens that it’s Hughes. If it were Lowery, I’d switch.

Saw a Glenn Beck video where he was essentially telling his audience to support Hughes over Progressive Kirk - though Beck doesn’t make official endorsements, it was pretty clear he was for Hughes. Praying for a miracle on Tuesday.

I think that miracle gets more difficult because we’re not going to get every potential vote. Rest assured, Lowery will take 2-3%, and that may make the difference if we’re really unlucky......

I heard Don Wade and Roma weren’t in today. And Edgar, who while he was in didn’t do a damm thing to help city GOP ward orgs is busy on radio commercials pushing Kirk.
Cap and Trade are going to be one of the key issues in the 2010 campaign...and they’re pushing a guy who voted for it. Because they contributed to his congressional campaign.
Nuts !
Here is one of the best scientificly based arguments against CO2 caused global warming...Which shows its pseudo science and nothing but a vehicle to generate taxes to build bureacracies and reward friends.

I emailed Don & Roma, about four times, and I asked them to ask Rep. Kirk why he’s a Republican, although he’s pro-choice, pro-gun control, pro-gay marriage, pro-tax increases, pro-spending increases, pro-illegal alien, and anti-Iraq surge. They didn’t send a response, and I didn’t hear them ask my question.

And that’s the problem. Because one group insists in uniting behind Hughes and another insists in uniting behind Lowery, and this is why Combiner Kirk has no worries. You’re really just wasting your time at this point. Just like my state’s Senate GOP primary race in 2006, a 3-way fiasco that allowed the most liberal candidate to win.

Bingo, fieldmarshaldj!

If Lowery pulls a Brady, and pulls just enough votes to ensure the RINO wins the nod — as far as I'm concerned his aspirations for statewide office are over. He'd better hope Kirk wins in a landslide.

I am SO DAMN SICK of this crap in IL. Every &*($(*#@ing election we have to have vote slitting on the Conservative side.

There is not ONE DAMN THING wrong with Hughes that is so repugnant that we should vote for Lowery even if it helps Kirk win. Not one.

I honestly SWEAR these guys are Libertarians and Constitution Party plants DELIBERATELY trying to split the vote so that a RINO wins (”now WE have the only true Conservative Candidate running in the General Election!”).

There is no justification for voting Lowery over Hughes right now, none. Not with Kirk salivating over every vote Lowery bleeds from Hughes.

Am I really the only IL Freeper who casts his vote for the most Conservative candidate with the best chance of winning?

Seriously, every &**())ing election, every damn one.

Weather tomorrow in Chicago and Northern part of Illinois is snow with temps in the upper 20s and lower 30s. That should keep a lot of the Liberals in the Crack Houses and the HO houses during polling hours.

I noticed Patrick Hughes was supporting “our next Senator” Congressman Kirk at Republican Day at the Illinois State Fair. Nevermind that Kirk is trying to run to the left of Giannoulias and didn’t even have the decency to debate Hughes during the primary. If the situation had been reversed and Hughes had won the primary, I have no doubt Kirk would be decrying Hughes as “too extreme for Illinois” and doing everything possible to undermine his candidacy.

Those who hounded Dr. Eric Wallace out of the race and touted you as THE solution for conservatives have now been proven wrong.

Mr. Hughes, I regret my vote for you in the primary.

I think Hughes was just clueless. He dumped like half a million dollars into this race because some conservative "leaders" told him he a chance, and he went nowhere because he was a first time candidate that didn't know anything about politics or elections. The man had only voted like twice in his life before as well. Kirk steamrolled the guy.

Judge Don Lowery was obviously a far superior candidate in every respect (track record of winning elections, bronze star in the Vietnam War, experience in two branches of government, ability to articulate conservative principals, etc.) but he had a shoe-string budget and was DOA as long as the conservative "leaders" wouldn't give him the time of day and pi$$ed away all their time for Patrick Hughes. For what it's worth, Lowery spent next to nothing and got around 10% (winning most of the counties in the bottom 1/3rd of the state), Hughes spent 10X that, had campaign offices around the state, and got around 19% of the vote, winning 1 or 2 counties.

Add up all the anti-Kirk candidates combined numbers and it's around 40% of the time. The biggest mistake was the Hughes people stabbing Dr. Eric Wallace in the back and forcing his exit when they threw all their resources to Hughes. He had prepared for this race and made it known publicly long before Hughes name was even floated. They (and I as well) figured once Wallace was gone, Hughes should get the conservative vote by default. But Hughes was so incredibly inept conservatives were vary of backing him until the last minute.

Most of us who voted "for" Hughes made up our minds to do so during the final week of the campaign because he was the only non-Kirk candidate getting press coverage. It was a mistake, Hughes was a paper tiger and his candidacy was dead on arrival.

Hughes might be a little bit like Jim Ryan. Both of them actually have pretty conservative positions, and aren't party of any backroom deals, but both them are useful idiots for the combine. Jim Ryan tries to play nice and positive media coverage, and figured the combine would support him in the general election. He never saw it coming when "fellow Republicans" threw him under the bus and uniformly backed Blago in November. Hughes is probably getting the same bad advise from the GOP establishment. "Don't get tagged as a sore loser, campaign for Kirk in November and we'll support you in future campaigns".

Don't get your hopes up, Pat.

I’m still glad that I voted for Judge Lowery, since he was the best candidate, in that race. He was the only conservative veteran, with experience, in elected office, in that race. If I thought that Hughes could have defeated Kirk and that Lowery couldn’t beat Kirk, I would have voted for Hughes. Since Hughes is helping Kirk, I hope that Hughes will never run for office. If Rep. Shimkus doesn’t run for re-election, in 2012, I hope that Lowery will run for that seat.

A horrible thought but I can’t say it’s not possible. He was poor enough a candidate that you could wonder.

Of course he could easily just be a fool as Billy says.

His shilling for Kirk could easily be attributed to a desire to get in good with the party bosses in anticipation of a future run for office. I shan’t vote for him in a primary again.

Did you honestly just dig up primary comments of mine about not splitting the Conservative vote so that we could defeat Kirk, and try to use them as an in-your-face attack on me - someone with whom you had allegedly made peace? Just to try and justify yourself?

Have you forgotten, you chest-thumping hypocrite, that your God, Bill Brady, endorsed Judy Baar Topinka right after losing the nomination last time around?

Did you send a similar letter to Bill Brady last time around?: “I noticed Bill Brady was supporting “our next Governor” Judy Baar Topinka at Republican Day at the Illinois State Fair.......Those who touted you as THE solution for conservatives have now been proven wrong.

Somehow I doubt it. I don't know why you have such a chip on your damned shoulder, or why you see fit to ping me out-of-nowhere to show me you are a hypocrite, but get over yourself, King Solomon. You're blasting people for not getting behind your one-percenter of choice in favor of the guy who finished second because he endorsed the RINO AFTER the Primary? All he did was follow Brady's example. You had no problem arguing PROFUSELY that nobody should EVER hold it against Bill Brady.

Man are you going to have a lot of explaining to do if Bill Brady shows support for Mark Kirk.

Stop picking fights with people on your team. Get over yourself.

>> Did you honestly just dig up primary comments of mine about not splitting the Conservative vote so that we could defeat Kirk, and try to use them as an in-your-face attack on me <<

I took your advice at the time and voted for Hughes over Lowery, because he was the "highest polling candidate". In hindsight I wish I hadn't because he sucked royal balls as a candidate. Thought I'd ping the other people who voted for Hughes if they also realize this in hindsight. It appears you don't.

>> someone with whom you had allegedly made peace? Just to try and justify yourself? <<

Seems that "peace" has been broken on the IL message boards. And it wasn't by me, it was by the "Obie was robbed!" crowd. Apparently a bunch of the freepers who said they would support Brady if he won the primary have gone back on their word and are now actively undermining him. A candidate who agrees with them 90% of the time and is the most conservative nominee we've had in 50 years is not good enough, they'd rather endlessly trash Brady for the 10% of the time he's wrong. And why is that? After Oberweis won the congressional nomination, did you see me rehashing his flip-flop on abortion or seedy relationship with Hastert? Did I tell people that Oberweis deserves to lose to Foster and that freepers should stay home because Oberweis betrayed us on so-and-so thing five years ago?

I dare you to find any such posts. Yet your gang is more than happy to join with Pat Quinn in trashing Brady. Conservatives were united after the primary, now a group of them has decided to open fire on our candidate. You failed to notice it was from your side.

>> Have you forgotten, you chest-thumping hypocrite, that your God, Bill Brady, endorsed Judy Baar Topinka right after losing the nomination last time around? <<

I haven't forgotten that JIM OBERWEIS endorsed Judy Baar Topinka right after the primary (and campaigned for her), though all the Brady bashers like yourself seem to suffer sever amnesia about that little event -- since you've endlessly been attacking Brady about it over the last four years but said absolutely NOTHING when Oberweis DID THE EXACT SAME THING.

I'll assume it's amnesia, since we all know you wouldn't mercilessly scream "RINO" at Bill Brady for doing things you're perfectly tolerant of Jim Oberweis and Adam Andrejewski for. Dare anyone suggest hypocrisy when it's ONLY "bad" when Brady campaigns for Topinka, runs for statewide office again after losing a primary, flip-flops on a key issue, etc.? No way YOU could be holding Brady to a different standard than everyone else!

>> Did you send a similar letter to Bill Brady last time around?: “I noticed Bill Brady was supporting “our next Governor” Judy Baar Topinka at Republican Day at the Illinois State Fair.......Those who touted you as THE solution for conservatives have now been proven wrong. <<

I did not, since Oberweis was doing the exact same thing you know it, as much as you'd like to pretend otherwise. You might notice, however, that Dr. Eric Wallace has pointedly NOT endorsed Mark Kirk, and certainly isn't running around stumping for him and calling him "our next Governor". And given how poor the "credible candidate" Patrick Hughes did, you think that might cause some of Patrick Hughes more ardent followers here to rethink their (once again) failed stragedy of shoving Dr. Wallace out of the race in favor of Hughes. . Perhaps THAT is why I singled out Hughes and not Brady. Alas, I have no doubt they're find some other zillionaire with zero campaign skills and DEMAND all conservatives vote for him in 2012, or we're traitors. The act of trying to shove zillionaire losers down our throats is getting really old, you know. I'm tired of it. You think after attempting this eight times you'd think it over.

>> Mr. Brady, I regret my vote for you in the primary.” <<

Certainly not. Back in Feb. I hesitantly voted for Brady after seriously considering Dan Proft (this can be verified from numerous posts I made at the time-- not that facts matter to your looney accusations that Brady is my "God). But I will say Thank God I voted for Brady or Kirk Dillard might have won. I do regret my vote for "highest polling conservative" Hughes though. Of course if the Oberweis fan club believed their own advice that we all MUST vote for the "highest polling conservative", they'd regret their votes for Adam in this primary. But as 2010 proved, their "rules" only apply when the candidate they like is ahead (otherwise they would have demanded Adam get out and back Brady... as they laughably insist they would have done in 2006 if Brady had been ahead. Too bad when he really WAS ahead, they proved they're total liars and simply said anything to get people to vote Oberweis)

>> You're blasting people for not getting behind your one-percenter of choice in favor of the guy who finished second because he endorsed the RINO AFTER the Primary? <<

I already gave you the percentages and Don Lowery got far more than 1%. In fact, I believe he even won more counties than Hughes. And the "second place finisher" spent 10X as much as the third place guy and only did slightly better. What does that say about the "zillionaire = electable" theory? I'm sure it will go over your head. Just as the "RINO = electable" theory has been proven wrong time and time again but the GOP establishment keeps rolling out those "electable" Kirk types.

>> All he did was follow Brady's example. You had no problem arguing PROFUSELY that nobody should EVER hold it against Bill Brady. <<

I could try explaining to that Hughes was specficially recruited as the "anti-Kirk candidate" and vowed to conservative activists that he wouldn't campaign for Kirk unless Kirk was willing to discuss the issues with him and meet conservatives halfway, but I'm sure the circumstances of the primary race will go over your head.

>> Man are you going to have a lot of explaining to do if Bill Brady shows support for Mark Kirk. <<

If? He did and he's not anymore. And there's a very good reason why Brady learned his lesson there. Seems you haven't been following the election.

>> Stop picking fights with people on your team. Get over yourself. <<

As soon as your fellow "Oberweis was robbed!!" freepers get over an election from four years ago and stop spreading lies that Brady was a "Topinka plant", I would agree with you. It is the hardcore Brady haters who violated the little cease fire and are actively undermining him on the IL Review boards and helping Pat Quinn.

Again, WHO fired the first shot? Check the IL message boards and you'll see. Who keeps screaming bloody murder and can't let go of an election from 4 years ago? Even Oberweis has. Some of his ardent diehard fans are worse than the "Bush stole Florida" lunatics with the anti-Brady conspiracy.

As soon as they stop tearing down fellow conservatives, I'll stop responding in kind and being forced to refute their lies and double-standards with the facts.

You are pathetic and sad.

I have said NOTHING but good things about Bill Brady since he won the nod, and even started a Brady/Plummer ping list. You and I had a separate e-mail conversation about burying the hatchet for a greater cause, yet you choose to pick a fight for no reason whatsoever. Out of NOWHERE, you just decide to attack me, for no reason WHATSOEVER.

Then you bring up Oberweis? Oberweis had NOTHING to do with Pat Hughes, Judge Lowery, the 2010 race, or Bill Brady’s endorsement of Topinko, nothing. As far as “my crowd,” you clearly have a learning disability. I have told you 1,000,000,000 times that my vote was Anti-Topinka, not Pro-Oberweis. You don’t seem to want to grasp that. I have cast one vote for Jim Oberweis in my life, and that was to stop Judy Baar. I actively worked against him twice (Durkin, Lauzen).

-—”As soon as your fellow “Oberweis was robbed!!” freepers get over an election from four years ago and stop spreading lies that Brady was a “Topinka plant”, I would agree with you. I have done nothing but support and praise Bill Brady since he won. At no point have I ever brought up Oberweis since the nomination; in fact, you will find posts by me ENCOURAGING Oberweis supporters to get on board the current ticket. Stop blaming me for what other people do.

-—”Again, WHO fired the first shot?”-—

You did. You dug-up some old post about uniting to defeat Mark Kirk, and tried to turn in into an in-your-face attack for uniting behind the “wrong” Conservative. Then I point out that Hughes did exactly what Brady did last election, and you start talking about Oberweis as if he either has anything to do with this election or somehow made Bill Brady endorse Topinko. Then you decide your attack was justified BECAUSE OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT ME have pissed you off.

It was right to support Hughes, because he was the Conservative with the best shot at beating Kirk. He, like Brady before him, endorsed the primary winner of the contest he lost when the race was over. You CANNOT blast Hughes for doing so and at the same time NOT blast Bill Brady. And that has nothing to do with Oberwies, Lowery, or Dr. Eric Wallace, or the price of tea in China.

I have put in several hours helping Brady and Plummer, and will probably put in dozens more in the closing weeks. You don’t seem to know the difference between allies and enemies. Some Oberweis supporters are pissing you off? Take it up with them, not me.

I ain’t them.
