The Perot Option [Left's Strategy to Divide Us and Keep Power]
NYT ^ | January 28, 2010 | David Brooks

Posted on 01/30/2010 4:54:48 AM PST by cmj328

There is a specter haunting America: the specter of a saner, updated version of Ross Perot. He is lurking out there, ready to ride the free-floating anger and distrust of Washington. He is out there now in one of his homes or private jets, getting madder by the day. He is large of ego, full of money and cranky in mien.

When he enters the arena, he’ll say that Washingtonians, all of them, are a bunch of failures. Over the past five years, Washington has tried to reform Social Security, immigration, health care and energy policy. All of these efforts have either failed or are close to failure — thousands of people working millions of hours and in all likelihood producing nothing.

The Teas already fell for it. We must support conservatism not parties!

Then I guess you better get off your butt with the rest of the GOP Kool-Aid drinkers and re-establish control of YOUR party, the GOP does NOT OWN the conservative vote, although they think they do!

This is getting to be a completely pitiful argument from the GOP, instead of spending your time berating Conservatives, how about berating the idiots that have ruined the GOP and the "drinkers" that continue to support the status quo...Just sayin.

So are all of you who are saying “This could never happen” also going to say that you would NOT vote for an 3rd party Palin candidacy over a GOP Romney candidacy in November of 2012?

They have outlined their strategy. Let's not fall for it.

I got a better idea. How about the Republicans actually campaign for the votes from these ticked off voters who are tired of the never ending specter of amnesty, of ever increasing size, scope and power of the federal government, who are tired of working half of every day simply to pay for government employees and their pet projects?

Rather than chiding this mythical Ross Perot, how about stealing their thunder, gather up those votes hanging in the wind, and actually take a leadership role in the political debate?

But no, we must set out the trenches, put up the stockade, lest people wander away from the big tent and 'give it to the liberals.'

The time to settle that issue is in the primaries. If that comes to pass the RATs are vurtually assured a win.

Maybe, keep in mind Palin has huge political negatives, as in there is a large block of voters who will never vote for her no matter how terrible the Country is doing.

Scott Brown won in MA simply be being palatable to the disaffected Democrat Voter and to Independents, two groups Gov Palin does not do well with in polls.

Why do you think Palin would lose the primary or refuse to participate in it? That’s a straw man.

Why do you think Palin would lose the primary

A few previous successful GOP names come to mind....Bush, Dole, Bush, McCain, Voinovich, Collins, Snowe, Specter, Dewine, Graham, Schwarzenegger, Steele, etc...

How about because she is currently polling in 3rd place?

There are many more reasons to believe she will not get the nomination than to believe she will.

One can hope that something happens and one can find ways that it is possible that something will happen. That is different than objectively looking at a situation and figuring out what will probably happen.

A RINO dressed in hopeychangey clothes will probably be the GOP nominee. There is a chance that Palin will make a 3rd party run when that happens. The question is....What will you do??????

Don't have to make assumptions... I just have to read your post?! If it wasn't a slap at TEA Party Patriots and Conservatives then what was it?

Once upon a time there were a whole bunch of these guys who considered themselves patriots—but they were radical as hell.

They pushed the idea that the status quo wasn’t acceptable and all signed a document that began, “When in the course of human events...

And another radical called forth the people’s action with...The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.

Another said, “you have a Republic, if you can keept it.”

So if the guy is out there who can motivate the people to throw the rascals out, God bless him and keep him safe against puling wimps like David Brooks

Sorry, but way too many Americans hold a dim view of Palin.
There is no margin with her. A competent 3rd party liberty candidate would take enough votes from Palin to ensure 0bama’s reelection. That is absolutely guaranteed.

Anyone calling for Palin to run is also inadvertantly calling for 0bama to be reelected, FRiend.

2012 maybe too soon. After that, she will be ready and I’m confident any negatives about her will subside

2012 may be too soon for Dan Quayle too, but I’m sure he’s going to have a political comeback sooner or later, too...

The people you are talking about were locally known as “Whigs”. Their opponents in the provincial assemblies were known as “Tories”. It was a two-party system. There was no third option.

Most of us agree with the Republican Party platform to the letter. We cannot, or at least HAVE not, come up with a better platform. The problem we have is that GOP politicians either a) dissent from the platform when they’re running, or b) fail to implement the platform after election. The problem with the GOP is the people, not the message. So the best thing to do is change the people. And we can do that pretty easily—1) register Republican, and 2) vote for better people.

Now some people do not like parts of the message. They think it’s too socially conservative, or too fiscally conservative, and they want to form their own party to cater to others of like mind.
