A popular U.S. senator and an incumbent governor headline a close race, but a feisty conservative activist is gaining ground.
------------------
Last but by no means least is the most conservative of the bunch, Debra Medina. A Republican Party activist and the former Wharton County Republican Party chair, as well as the former state coordinator for the Campaign for Liberty, Medina is an admitted long shot, but she has seemingly pushed an awful lot of the right buttons with her share of likely voters:
A new Rasmussen Reports poll revealed a significant shift to Medina among likely Texas primary voters. She now stands at 12%, up considerably from November:

Under 20% equals a spoiler.
Perry has been Governor for 10 years. Please explain why he needs to run for yet another term. He’s also more of a big-gov’t socon.
“Last but by no means least is the most conservative of the bunch, Debra Medina.”
...most conservative???
;-)
The demographics of Texas are shifting rapidly and the GOP will not be able to could on Texas as a win on the presidential level for too much longer.
With that Texas will be a Battleground State in 2020 and by 2024 be Leaning if not Strong Democrat.
But for today, Texas Conservatives need to support Debra Medina for Governor.
She’s going to do away with gun registration in Texas!
I guess she would have to BEGIN gun registration first, but hey...
I agree, kinda oxymoronic??? right???
The excerpt makes it sound like someone is pushing a Paul protege. Also the writer doesn’t even know the spelling of Hutchison’s last name. Yet he becomes a specialist on Texas politics and elections. Go figure.
If conservatives in Medinas court would do their homework on her they wouldn’t be supporting her at all. Dimwits do that, they get caught up in the hipe or get spoon fed and go along rather than finding out the truth about a candidate. Sheesh!
Exactly. We don’t need Bill White as Gov.

Freepmail me or ping me from the original thread to get on/off the 2010 Texas Governor's Race ping list.
Medina shares the Libertarian position on legalizing drugs. She got elected chairwoman when Ronulans dominated the process and took over the the election in Wharton County. Like a typical Ronulan, she called everyone in the Wharton County organization who didn’t agree with her “country club Republicans.”
Sound familiar?
She’s Ron Paul in a pantsuit.

LOL!
Well, call me a dimwit. Medina’s record looks pretty conservative to me. But then again, I’m a Texas conservative. She wants to do away with property tax and is in favor of sales taxes instead. Real border security. She homeschooled her children. She runs her own small business. Maybe Pennsylvania voters are more conservative than Texans? By the way, I watched both of the Republican Governor debates. What did you think of the debate?
Medina is a fake and would be a disaster.
Yeah, kinda made me giggle as well...
Like I’ve said, the only reason she is even on the map is the Libertarians that have latched onto her coat-tails...
You should see all the “Republicans” in Harris County she has sucked into the fold...
Is it s 33, 45 or 78?
She has no record and her history in politics include too much Ron Paul.
Kinda like the Bill of Needs?
Oh wait, that is the Bill of Rights.
See he has a right to run if he wants to and owes you no explanation.
Votes % Kay Bailey Hutchison 60 2 Debra Medina 2625 91 Rick Perry 121 4

Ok Dimwit, well you did say to call you that...since when has homeschooling kids qualify one to serve as a state Governor? The fact you even mention this as something to toot about reveals where you are at in your understanding of politics.
You do know she quotes Bill Clinton in her speeches I assume? You know too she is a Ron Paul lacky...look at what he supports.
I cannot do your homework for you but maybe if you look further than her website and listen to why people are opposing her you would better understand why we’re saying her running is not a good and she will do terrible as a Gov.
She claims the support of the Teaparty...they say not so.
You LIE!
Do you have any idea how many bedpans this fine woman has emptied?
You are an obvious troll.
The trend I notice is that voters are particularly going against women, espcially liberal ones.
You can say what you like about Kay Bailey’s conservative credentials. They make her the most conservative women in the Senate, but not in the top third of conservatives ther, and she certainly is not as conservative as Perry.
She will go down.
Is the number posted on her website?
2625
Homeschooling doesn’t qualify one for Governor. But homeschooling does indicate that one is conservative and views public education lacking. I did not know that she quotes Bill Clinton in her speeches, but is that disqualifying? Sure she has some connections to Ron Paul, but is that disqualifying? Ron Paul does have some good ideas too. Does that make her a “lacky?” I have not heard her say one thing about “support” of the tea party. I didn’t even know that the Tea Party was a real political party.
For someone who does not live in Texas, you sure do have a lot of knowledge about the politics of Texas. Do you use shortwave radio or just a tin foil hat?
Dimwit.
I just switched TO Medina. I will never waste my vote on some baby killer like “hatched her son” or a liberal who blasted new taxes into the ionosphere with the the business INCOME TAX predicated on a lie that our property taxes would go down!!!DEBRA MEDINA IS A TEA BAgger and here she comes!!!!
Exactly! 10 years is enough
Brilliant!
Weren’t you banned under the name “catarac” or something like that?
Thanks for sounding like an establishment hack.
I'm sure in this era of Tea-Parties and anti-incumbency climate, you're on the side of the condescending jokers on MSNBC and Dems.
The syntax and typing style with the CAPS for emphasis certainly makes it look that way. The worship, as opposed to support, for Medina just about cinches it.
I can't see MSNBC or the DNC remotely supporting Rick Perry on anything.
They'll save their support for Bill White in the general this November.
Welcome to Free Republic. :)
Unless something major occurs between now and the primary, I’m casting my vote for Medina.
Perry to me, is a slick-talking scam artist. I don’t trust him after what he’s been trying to do with the TTC, and his fondness for land grabbing. I’ve seen him waffle too many times on our border. I don’t like how most Texans knew nothing of his plans to add on to the Governor’s mansion, either. And he reminds me too much of Mitt Romney.
Then there’s Kay Bailey, who was once a fine senator - but that was prior to about 15 years ago. In recent years, she’s more concerned with her political alliances and moving up the ladder.
I do think this slugfest between Perry & KB is quite amusing to watch. Exposing themselves as they needle one another is only hurting them both, and it’s ultimately going to allow Medina to win once Texans vote.
Medina won the last debate hands down.
I can’t/won’t support Paul-bots or liberterians.
Isn't that a derogatory term and double entendre?
Is this what you really meant to post?
I notice that the focus in this 2010 race seems to be on the GOP nominee. White has a number of challengers but he seems to be staying clear of media (over)exposure while Kay and Rick bloody each other up.
White has a number of challengers but he seems to be staying clear of media (over)exposure while Kay and Rick bloody each other up.
I think that is partially because most of the democrats have little or no statewide recognition and basically won’t be a player in their nomination, imo. Farouk Shami has money and will get some play just because he’s spending a large amount on ads. They do have a debate upcoming Feb. 8 which will exclude the other five and include only White and Shami.
The GOP should still be running ads against White to get the negatives out there before the middle of the year.
Most Conservative Woman in the Senate
Sounds much better than the:
Tied for 24th most Conservative Senator.
Where were you before you switched to FR?
Remember the name “ReyTurner” because we will see this “teabagger” again on either Ron Paul or Medina threads not answering any questions especially if they require thought.

What choice do we have?
Medina ad:
Who is going to think more about Latino families? Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison or me, who has a Latino family? (Medinas cultural heritage is German and Bohemian.)
She told a colleague last month in an e-mail. Being married, however, to someone with a Mexican American heritage, I certainly embrace the culture. But before she explained that, she told my colleage, who had asked her whether she considers herself Latina: Id not consider myself anything other than a wife and mother, a nurse and a patriot. I believe we too often get into race when its immaterial.
No, Thanks, Mrs Medina.
She is also running Spanish ads. Hello Mrs.Medina! If they cannot speak English then they have no business voting IMO. When they learn English then let them vote. Assimilate. Learn English. Appreciate all America gives you.
So Im sure she is blowing a lot of hot air just like Obama did just to get elected. Running those ads and saying what she has, tells me the border issue is just a try to get votes for herself.
No, thanks, Ill stick with ol RINO Perry. Texas has remained in better shape than almost any if not all of the states in the union under Perry's watch. As someone said, 'he's the devil we know'.
The motly crew running for governor is laughable; a MUSLIM, a trecherous RINO woman* (Hutchison) and a woman with questionable loyalties
*Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchisons amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.

What choice????!!!!
Holy crap, so you want to support the TTC? For all you non-Texans praising Perry, I hope he takes over your states, steals your land and puts a big highway on it to allow Mexican drivers to use it at our expense, the proceeds of which are going to SPAIN.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EOWKs-wC2ek
Perry acts like he’s the Putin of Texas.
So Medina has an ad in Spanish. At least she didn’t *sell* the toll roads to freaking Spain. Wake up, man. Perry is selling our infrastructure to foreign companies, and you’re worried about an *ad* in Spanish?
I’ll vote for Mickey Mouse before that Jack Hat. Medina is better than Perry, Hutchison or Mickey. Not perfect, but much better.
