"There remains, however, an astonishingly gaping absence in Galbraith’s worldview. While he is perfectly able to see the defects of businessmen—their inclination to megalomania, greed, hypocrisy, and special pleading—he is quite unable to see the same traits in government bureaucrats."

Dalrymple sums up the limited vision of the current crop of so-called "progressives," and the constitutionally illiterate citizens who put them into power, believing that imperfect human beings elected to positions in government were motivated by benevolence, not lust for power and greed.

America's Founders were wiser than that. Understanding human nature, they placed their trust in a "People's" written constitution for self-government to curb government's power.

The final paragraph here also contains a great statement referring to Galbraith, but applicable alike to the President and Congressmen: ". . . his aristocratic assumption of unchallengeable moral superiority, written in his prose as it appears to be written on President Obama’s face. How delightful to be so generous, so very right all the time, and yet make a fortune and stay at the Ritz!"

My hat’s off to ol’ C3PO (Dalrymple’s real name being Anthony Daniels), he actually read sufficient of Galbraith’s books to note that the guy endlessly repeated his ideas and anecdotes.

Somewhat like Deepak Chopra or the Rich Dad, Poor Dad guy.
