"UP cops nab IM terrorist planning aerial strike" Pervez Iqbal Siddiqui, TNN, 2 February 2010, 01:48am IST

SNIPPET: "LUCKNOW/NEW DELHI: The arrest of Shehzad alias Pappu — one of the key accused in the September 2008 serial blasts in Delhi and the Batla House encounter — by the anti-terrorism squad (ATS) of UP Police from Azamgarh on Monday evening is being seen as a major breakthrough in exposing a module that was planning to unleash air strikes.

Shehzad, intelligence agencies had recently discovered, had undergone a training to fly planes from an institute in Bangalore and had surfaced as a leader of the module designated to execute aerial terror attacks.

The chargesheet against Shehzad says he had planted the bomb at Children's Park, India Gate on September 13, 2008, which failed to explode. He is also named as a co-accused in the Ghaffar Market blast the same day. Police had found Shahzad's passport at the Indian Mujahideen hideout at L-18 Batla House. He was allegedly one of two terrorists who fired back at the police during the raid at the apartment, in which Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma died.

Giving details of the arrest, additional director general (ATS) Brij Lal said: ``The breakthrough came on some specific tip-offs from the special cell of the Delhi Police. Shehzad was involved in arranging and planting of bombs at Karol Bagh, Greater Kailash, Tilak Marg and two places in Connaught Place and had managed to escape from Batla House when the police struck their suspected hideout there.''

Earlier, the government had announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh on Shehzad and another absconding co-accused Haris Khan alias Junaid."

Wow, that’s some reward he got turned in for...

Rs 100000 — Rs 1 lakh, in Indian terms of measurement—or about $2500 at current exchange rates.

If that’s all it takes we’ll see more and more turned in.

“Indian Mujahideen: Jihadi Threat Continues”
By Animesh Roul

SNIPPET: “Last week, media reports in India quoting Intelligence sources have underscored threats emanating from Indian Mujahideen (IM), the homegrown jihadi organization which perpetrated series of attacks on India’s urban centers in 2008. As per the reports, the IM has been plotting to carry out a ‘9/11-type’ terrorist attack using hijacked airplanes. India’s Intelligence Bureau has identified couple of IM suspects as Shahzad Ahmed (a.k.a Pappu) who had underwent pilot training couple of years back and Mirza Shadab Baig, both could be spearheading the next teror strike.

Many IM/SIMI militants are now under custody and they were arrested from Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. Couple of them were also arrested from southern states of Karnataka and Kerala. Those arrested include Zahid Shaikh, Yunus Mansuri, Abu Bashar Kazmi, Qayamuddin Kapadia, Abdul Raziq, Peerbhoy. However, the top leadership and the masterminds of the attacks, Iqbal Bhatkal, Riyaz Bhatkal, Tauqeer and Amir Raza Khan are still at large.”

Suspected Jihadi Held at Airport
The Times of India ^ | 31 August 2009
Posted on August 31, 2009 1:01:09 AM PDT by nickcarraway

authorities called back an aircraft from the runway on Sunday to arrest a suspected jihadi who had a lookout notice issued against him by the Intelligence Bureau.

The Kerala Police is still in the dark about Kabir, a resident of Rippon in Wayanad district, but unconfirmed reports say the IB suspects him of being involved in terror attacks, including the Bangalore blasts in 2008. He is also believed to be close to absconding Indian Mujahideen commander Tadiyantavide Nasir, who is also wanted for the Bangalore serial blasts.

Kabir was held at the end of some dramatic moments, which saw a Kuwait Airlines flight to the Gulf being called back from the runway of the international airport in Thiruvananthapuram when it was preparing to take off.

It was only after the Air Traffic Control cleared the flight for takeoff at 5.15am that airport security personnel realized there was a lookout notice pending against Kabir. He was questioned by sleuths of Intelligence Bureau, which had issued the lookout notice three months ago. Three days ago, the IB had given an alert, which said he could try to flee the country any time.

The security establishment, however, was left wondering how Kabir managed to pass the different screening stages and enter the aircraft. Airport sources say a security review will be done to find out if there was a flaw in the procedure. Instances of terrorists fleeing the country through Kerala had prompted the CISF, which is in charge of security in these airports, to step up vigil.

“Indian Mujahideen: Jihadi Threat Continues”

India’s Home-Grown Jihadi Threat: A Profile of the Indian Mujahideen
JAMESTOWN.org - JAMESTOWN FOUNDATION ^ | March 3, 2009 11:01 | By: Animesh Roul
Posted on March 6, 2009 4:54:18 PM PST by Cindy

Unknown before 2008, the Indian Mujahedeen (IM) has emerged as a well-organized jihadi terrorist group in India, claiming responsibility for a number of terror attacks perpetrated in various urban centers of India during 2007-2008. Even though the exact moment of IM’s formation is not known, the recent arrest of a number of IM operatives has revealed its possible existence and involvement in terror strikes in India as far back as late October 2005. The name “Indian Mujahideen” was reportedly conceived at a terrorist conclave attended by top leaders of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Harkat-ul-Jehadi Islami (HuJI) in Pakistani-administered Kashmir in early May 2008 (Rediff.com, July 29, 2008).

The well-concealed rise of the Indian Mujahedeen as a home grown jihadi organization is not a good omen for India’s security. IM came into the open for the first time in November 2007, when simultaneous bomb blasts targeted lawyers in court premises in three Uttar Pradesh cities—Varanasi, Faizabad (Ayodhya), and Lucknow (NDTV, November 23, 2007). IM described the attacks as “Islamic raids” and justified them as revenge against lawyers who had allegedly assaulted a couple of Jaish-e-Muhammad terrorist suspects. IM also alleged that the lawyers had refused to take cases involving other alleged terrorists, including suspected HuJI leader and Phulpur-based Islamic cleric Muhammad Waliullah, the alleged mastermind of the March 2006 Sankatmochan temple blasts in Varanasi.

In IM terror strikes, email messages have typically been sent out to the media prior to the attacks, describing IM viewpoints on issues such as the Babri mosque demolition, the Mumbai riots, the communal violence in Gujarat that followed the 2002 torching of a train carrying Hindus, and various atrocities against the Muslim community in Gujarat and beyond.

Another day, another jihadi....

And the beat goes on......

Keep yer eyes on Kashmir. The infiltration by the Pakistani Army is growing and while under control for now, I anticipate that in the spring...

The hills are alive,
With the Sound of Jihad,
With the heads they have cut,
For a thousand years....

SNIPPET from the link in post no. 1:

"Police said his emails show that he was in regular touch with Mirza Shadab Baig, a top Indian Mujahideen cadre believed to have had a hand in every major IM strike in the country since 2005. Shehzad, in some of his coded mails, had explained to Baig about his plans of undergoing advanced pilot training abroad as well. He was also found to have been in touch with a host of flying institutes in California and Australia and communicating with them over the nature, tenure and fee for the advance flying courses for different categories of aeroplanes."

aircraft are still a devistating choice for terror if they find lax security measures. Foreign airlines are very vulnerable!
