Posted on 02/02/2010 3:14:53 PM PST by icwhatudo
Incumbent Rick Perry's lead over Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has grown a little bigger in the race for this year's Republican gubernatorial nomination in Texas. Tea Party activist Debra Medina also has gained ground, and her gains appear to come at the expense of Hutchison.
The latest Rasmussen Reports survey of likely Republican Primary voters in Texas finds Perry leading Hutchison 44% to 29%, with Medina at 16%.
Medina has gained four points since the previous survey while Hutchison has lost four points. Perry's support is little changed from a month ago.

I’ll take Perry over Hutchinson
You’ve got that right. The NAFTA super highway pusher v. the People. Let’s hope Medina can light a fire with the electorate in time to oust these RINOs.
Freepmail me or ping me from the original thread to get on/off the 2010 Texas Governor's Race ping list.
I like Medina.
(But being a New Mexican, I don’t count.)
I saw the very first Debra Medina campaign sign today in the Southlake/Keller area. I had to smile.
Tea Party activist Debra Medina also has gained ground, and her gains appear to come at the expense of Hutchison.
I’ve seen Perry signs and his voter registration people but never Medina people. Was/is she that invovled with the tea party groups.
28 days and we’ll know the outcome.
Well, so much for the theory that Medina would take points from Perry thus giving KBH the governorship.
Guess that explains why a muslim ( Farouk Shami) on the democratic side is a billionaire from selling haircare products.
Perry and Kay B are his biggest customers.
Go Debra Medina. Beat the open borders RINOS
The BIG RINO being Hutchison.
“Perry is no RINO”
Perry is no RINO
Let me count the ways, off the top of my head:
Democrat until 1989
Texas Enterprise Fund [Perry idea to spend tax dollars, more power for government]
Perry Business Tax very harmful
Disregard for parents and individuals rights thats unacceptable
Opposed conservative judge Steve Smith and replaced with a liberal
Weak on immigration, waiting for the Feds to tax and spend to fix the border
Signed the hate bills crime [squelching free speech]
Supports No Child Left Behind big gov
Supported Security and Prosperity Partnership big gov
Removed Texans property to hand over to foreign entities to toll us
Attempted to give even more property to private entities
Attended 2007 Bilderberg group meeting in Istanbul, Turkey [the secret reason he was invited was because he was assisting globalists with the takeover of Texas highways]
If these numbers hold, Kaye Bailey won’t resign her Senate seat unless she wins the primary.
Wasn’t she originally going to resign last fall to run for governor but moved the date to later this spring?
Adding a couple more to your Rino points.....
1984... Texas State Coordinator Mondale for President
1988... Texas State Coordinator Al Gore for President
** Forced innoculations of 11/12 year old girls with Gardasil
How is he going to deal with the budget short fall that is coming for 2011? He got spared this time with the $12 billion in stimulus money.
#1 - In Texas, the Governor’s job is really titular rather than actually powerful.
#2 - We have a decent Lt. Governor and Speaker of the House (who both set the legislative agenda for the State Senate and State House, respectively) to keep her in check.
#3 - It gets her out of the Senate and we can get a decent senator to replace her (can anyone say “Medina”?).
The biggest RINO is a Libertarian running as a Republican and causing a split in the conservative vote. Ron Paul will not run as a Libertarian because he can't get elected and neither will Medina
Your senario helps get rid of both of them in effect. Perry out now and KBH out after one term. That way we get her out of the Senate, Perry out and then her out in of the gov. office in 4 yrs. 10 years is enough as governor and 17 is more than enough as Senator.
Perry's a political animal but a damn impressive one one who will be happy to go along with the conservative wave the next few years.
Wasnt she originally going to resign last fall to run for governor but moved the date to later this spring?
Correct. She originally said the late fall time frame and then changed that to hang around until after Health Care and Cap/Trade was done. So who knows what she’d do if she loses in the primary. Maybe stay the remaining two years as that is what Perry suggested she do and what Cronyn is suggesting also.
Texas Governor Rick Perry received the endorsement of the National Rifle Association on Friday.
The incumbent governor is locked in a tough primary race with fellow Republican, U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Perry is trying to position himself as the true conservative in the race.
The NRA endorsement comes just days after the Perry Camp announced that fellow conservative and Republican Party mega-star Sarah Palin will campaign with Perry in February.
Upon accepting the endorsement, Perry said, “Thankfully, we have organizations like these that are devoted to defending our essential Second Amendment rights and protecting the pillars of our democracy. I honestly believe in an individuals right to carry for the way it helps a citizen with self-defense and for the deterrent effect it has on other violent crimes. This keeps us all safer.”
The NRA also commended Kay Bailey Hutchison for her support of gun rights, but added that it is usually the policy of the NRA to endorse the incumbent.
I don’t believe the NRA would support a RINO
I might be willing to give Medina some consideration, but she’s a Paleo Paulbot, and that’s just a no-go.
I dont believe the NRA would support a RINO
I do if they support RINO Perry.
So you have one opinion I have another.
No Washington Politicians!!
No Career Politicians!!
Time for KBH to go back to the private sector or get a hobby.
I have a message I would like to send to her.
Goodbye. end of message
No Career Politicians!!
Can’t disagree with that..... Perry been sucking at the Texas gov’t teat since 1984 and KBH for many years also. Time to retire both of them if there is a way.
It’s between Medina, Hutchinson(meh) and Rick “Blago” Perry. So I guess Medina comes out on top, simply by not being the other two.
HEY MEDINA--THINK ABOUT RUNNING AGAINST LLOYD DOGGETT IF THIS GOOB RUN DOESN'T PAN OUT!
Was Medina endorsed by the Tea Party? Or is that wishful thinking.
I’m going with Perry.
I think I’ll take Medina as well. This is the Primary, and this is the time to pick the best candidate out of the field. I am tired of “hold your nose and vote” “Republican” candidates. Either be conservative or be gone!
Whoever wins needs to start slowly but surely breaking the economic ties between the state and the federal government. The more we can stand alone, the less DC can bully us into following their unconstitutional mandates. Free Texas and Free Texans!!!
Well, I'm a Texan, so I do count. I'll be voting Medina. She'd be doing better if she could get more ink.
Remember folks, this is a primary. If no candidate gets 50+% of the vote, they'll have a runoff. For once you have a chance to vote your conscience instead of being forced to settle for the lesser of two evils!
What choice do we have?
Who is going to think more about Latino families? Rick Perry, Kay Bailey Hutchison or me, who has a Latino family? (Medinas cultural heritage is German and Bohemian.)
She told a colleague last month in an e-mail. Being married, however, to someone with a Mexican American heritage, I certainly embrace the culture. But before she explained that, she told my colleage, who had asked her whether she considers herself Latina: Id not consider myself anything other than a wife and mother, a nurse and a patriot. I believe we too often get into race when its immaterial.
No, Thanks, Mrs Medina.
She is also running Spanish ads. Hello Mrs.Medina! If they cannot speak English then they have no business voting IMO. When they learn English then let them vote. Assimilate. Learn English. Appreciate all America gives you.
So Im sure she is blowing a lot of hot air just like Obama did just to get elected. Running those ads and saying what she has, tells me the border issue is just a try to get votes for herself.
No, thanks, Ill stick with ol RINO Perry. Texas has remained in better shape than almost any if not all of the states in the union under Perry's watch. As someone said, 'he's the devil we know'.
The motly crew running for governor is laughable; a MUSLIM, a trecherous RINO woman* (Hutchison) and a woman with questionable loyalties
*Feds Have Built Only 32 Miles of 700 Mile Double-Border Fence Originally Mandated by Congress One reason DHS has been able to do this is an amendment that Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R.-Texas) slipped into an omnibus appropriations bill that Congress passed on December 18, 2007. Hutchisons amendment put a loophole in the fence law that allowed the secretary of Homeland Security not to build the fence Congress had mandated the year before.
If the Libertarian (capital L) Party has never won a major seat then why worry? Many good Republicans have been swayed by the anti-immigration agenda as it is a law and order issue which Republicans appreciate. But as I pointed out, it doesnt stop there. In fact it goes on to abandonment of the Pro-Life plank in the platform as evidenced by the socially tolerant admission on the Libertarian Republican blog site. Now that they have demonized poor and hungry people who come to America for the simple opportunity to work, the crypto-libertarians now, as Mrs. Medina recently alluded, advocate abandonment of the Drug War which is the REAL cause of most crime in American.
None of these ideals is a winner for the GOP and most are not Republican ideals or planks in the platform. TexasGOPvote.com is dedicated to the mission of Restore, Renew and Reunite the Republican Party. The crypto-libertarians seek to lead the partys membership astray, and when they fail to win the majority of your votes, they will take that support and go to a third party. That will only benefit the Democrats always has always will. Thats why I oppose them because they oppose us.
I found this interesting
“Go Debra Medina. Beat the open borders RINOS”
The only people who are for open borders are Libertarians, they are for no borders at all. Medina is a libertarian running as a Conservative Rep
No, thanks, Ill stick with ol RINO Perry. Texas has remained in better shape than almost any if not all of the states in the union under Perry’s watch. As someone said, ‘he’s the devil we know’.
We in Ca got told the same thing with Arnold Kennedy in 2oo6
Look where Ca has gone from 06 - 10
To be forewarned is to be forearmed
I hope Texas likes the Countrywide deal we sent you
As a Texas resident, I’ll take Perry. The Texas budget is in decent shape and he’s actually governed pretty conservatively since the pap test fiasco at the beginning of his second term. Perry has also provided a lot of moral support to the Tea Party.
Libertarians, they are for no borders at all.
All your documentation aside, please don’t forget an act of extreme political courage in 2003. Rick Perry called one special session after another to bring about a mid-decade congressional redistricting, in an effort to correct the bizarre gerrymandering that had been put into place by ultra liberal Democrat Martin Frost.
Until then, Texans in the aggregate had been giving 60+% of their vote to GOP congressional candidates, but only wound up with 40% of the actual congressional seats. Perry stood firm in the face of a media onslaught never before seen in Texas. On two occasions, the Democrat state reps and senators left the state to prevent the state legislature from having a quorum. (State reps fled to Oklahoma, Senators went to New Mexico).
Once having succeeded in redrawing the lines, Texas replaced six Democrats with conservative Republicans, incluing Ted Poe, Louie Gomert and Randy Neubauer. (We still need to defeat Chet Edwards, which may happen this year).
I will always appreciate this act of political courage and resolve by Perry.
Don't kid yourself.
I belong to the NRA and support their cause, but they are a single-issue organization. They could care less on abortion, homosexual special rights, fiscal policy, free trade, or any one of our other platform issues.
I consider what the NRA has to say about a candidate, but I look at the overall picture. In this case they're saying KBH is OK on the gun issue as well, so their recommendation shouldn't be a factor.
On the surface, I'd take the Tea Party candidate with Rick Perry as a second choice. I'd leave it blank before I'd vote for KBH.
That is my thinking as well.
Medina’s answer on e verify extinguished any thought of voting for her in my mind.
Bump. You're right. I have been chastising management at the NRA for decades for their insane policies of supporting Tax-o-crats who disregard the Constitution routinely...if they blow off the rest of the constituition, how long before they get around to fully destroy the 2nd Amendment which has been under fire for over a century? And also, btw, TAX away our guns... "legally."
Just some background:
The NRA (my wife and I are members) will endorse any incumbent with a voting record in line with the NRA objectives. The NRA will do this consistently and reliably, and this policy is well known by politicians.
For example, the NRA endorsed Nick Lampson (a Democrat) over Pete Olson in the Texas Congressional race over Tom Delays old seat. Why? Because when Lampson was in Congress he had a pro gun rights voting record (liberal on everything else).
Good points; and we should give Perry credit for other things such as his very pro gun rights record.
So you're okay with the legislation Perry wanted pass requiring all girls get vaccinated for HPV? You are for the TTC and the selling of our toll roads to a Spanish company? You are for the taking of private property to give to foreign companies to build roads?
Wait, did you say you were, again, a conservative or a liberal?
The NRA is concerned with a single issue. Don't pretend like they are the ultimate teller of RINOs. They gave Hutchison an A+.
