CBSNEWS anchorwoman and 60 MINUTES contributor Katie Couric faces a dramatic pay cut at the network, insiders tell the DRUDGE REPORT.
CBS boss Les Moonves is determined to save money and trim expenses -- from top to bottom -- at the former crown jewel of broadcasting.
Couric, the highest paid TV news personality in history, commands over $14 million a year, plus bumps for non-EVENING NEWS appearances.
But her salary is now in the direct line of fire, network insiders explain, and a populist backlash against Couric's cash is said to be forming inside the newsroom.
"She makes enough to pay 200 news reporters $75,000 a year!" demands a veteran producer. "It's complete insanity."
The angry source continues: "We report with great enthusiasm how much bankers are making, how it is out of step with reality during a recession. We'll, look at Katie!"
Couric's $300,000 a week paycheck has become the obsession of disgruntled CBS staff, just as deep layoffs rock the fishbowl.
Dozens of employees -- including staff members in D.C., San Francisco, Miami, London, Los Angeles and Moscow -- are being let go, the NEW YORK OBSERVER reports.
Couric's current CBS contract expires next year.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Former CBS News anchor Dan Rather called on President Barack Obama to form a White House commission to help save the press. Tears welled in the lifelong reporters eyes as he discussed the dwindling number of war correspondents.
Another story on Drudge is that the giving to colleges has dropped the most since 1969. It is good to see the propagandists for the left are getting it in the neck with the failure of the system as well. Of course, those of us that aren’t overpaid celebrities or tenured professors are much more vulnerable . . . but . . .
still . . .
If they axed her they’d get more viewers.
:-D. Just can’t feel bad in the least about this article. Makes my day. In the meantime Fox has the top 13 out of the 15 top programs. Ho hum. People prefer Fair and Balanced news. Only the most lib like the elitist, hate America and her fundamental values trash we see these days from these manufactured ‘journalists.’ Be gone nastiness. Be gone.
So when will they shut down their news department?
I’m tired of these sob stories, give them all pink slips and end it!
This is poetic justice. CBS was so in the tank for Obama for two years, hiding all pertinent info that we still don’t know, from where he was born to how he got to Pakistan in 1981 when US citizens were not permitted to fly there. His college records, everything about his associations were not investigated because CBS wanted “the one” elected. They got their king and now their ruler is destroying the fabric of our economic base by taxing everything that works. This depression is Obama’s and CBS can thank their own lack of journalistic professionalism for their own demise. Couldn’t come soon enough for me. Payback time!
... and Sarah Palin continues to ascend with the Couric interview a minor pause along the way.
Okay, trying here to muster up a little sympathy for poor little Katie.
wait a minute, just give me a few more seconds.
.....just a bit more.....
I give up. I’ll just give her a copy of Sarah’s book to cheer her up.
Spreading the wealth in the house that Liberals built. I love it.
This sentence is unreadable:
"We will look at Katie!", or "Well, look at Katie!"
The decline of mastery of the English language continues apace.
“If they axed her theyd get more viewers.”
You mean if the axed her to keep working, but for a pay cut? 8^)
This cut in pay will hurt nothing but her ego. She has been over paid for so long that she should work for free. She has enough stashed to keep her living high on the hog for the rest of her life.
