More CYA From The Obama White House…Christmas Day Bomber Now Talking Because Of Family
Flopping Aces ^ | 02-03-10 | Curt

It only took a public thrashing to get Obama and pals to figure out that hey, maybe we want to get this Christmas Day Bomber to cooperate after all:

The Nigerian man accused of trying to use a bomb hidden in his underwear to bring down a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day has been cooperating with investigators since last week, discussing his contacts in Yemen and providing intelligence in multiple terrorism investigations, officials said Tuesday.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab’s cooperation could prove to be a national security victory and a political vindication for President Barack Obama, who has been under fire from lawmakers who contend the administration botched the case by giving Abdulmutallab the right to remain silent, rather than interrogating him as a military prisoner.

In the days following the failed bombing, a pair of FBI agents flew to Nigeria and persuaded Abdulmutallab’s family to help them. When the agents returned to the U.S., Abdulmutallab’s family came, too, according to a senior administration official briefed on the case. The family persuaded Abdulmutallab to work with the FBI, believing he would be treated fairly in U.S. courts, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

[snip]

Recall that the father of Abdulmutallab tried to warn our country about his sons nefarious intentions, to no avail.

What are the odds we will see this kind of stuff often from the families of other terrorists? Do we not often see the families laud their child’s “heroic” actions? But hey, I’m sure we will be able to get those families to come to our rescue.

Not likely.

He’s “talking” through an army of lawyers in an attempt to get a plea deal, wow, what a shock!

discussing his contacts in Yemen and providing intelligence in multiple terrorism investigations, officials said

Why did officials say this?

There is NO. FRAKING. GOOD. REASON. to announce this to the public.

CYA for O'bama doesn't qualify.

If, in fact, he is talking now, the Administration does not get a free pass, even if everything somehow manages to work out all right. That is the equivalent of getting to the airport at noon for an 11 a.m. flight, then finding out that the flight has been delayed until 1 p.m., and saying, “No problem. I made my flight.”

After he testified in front of the Senate yesterday, some reporter cornered Dennis Blair and asked him directly:

“If we caught Osama bin Laden today, would he be read his Miranda rights?”

Blair refused to answer the question.

That should be ringing alarm bells from coast to coast but it isn’t. They acknowledge that another attempt is imminent, and then leave dingbats like Blair in charge. Of course the real problem lies much further up the chain of command, but the answer to that question should not be hard...

His Dad turned him in to save his own US and UK visa and travel rights. He also turned him in to get him back.
Now they are cutting deals with both of them for more information.
I’m sorry, but I don’t think his Dad is a hero..he is a rich, corrupt Nigerian politician.

I recall the Obama administration saying earlier that they already got everything out of him before he was given a lawyer.

Oh, really?! This whopping tale and the timing positively reeks. It is insulting. Still, I suppose they thought it worth a try since in the past they’d found the public to be so imminently, willingly dupable. Plus, for the most part the MSM is reliably complacent and malleable!

That little fact popped out during the panel discussion on “Special Report” yesterday. The fact Blair can’t give a resounding “HELL NO!!” to a question like that one is proof positive of how much trouble we are in.

None of these people “get it”. The Left thinks that terrorism is being “hyped”. I wonder how any of them would feel now had they been sitting next to the Fruit of Kaboom bomber on Christmas Day.

EXCERPT:

...Since Christmas Day when fate foiled 23-year old Umar Farouk Abdul Mutallab’s attempt to bring down a jetliner over Detroit one has watched in dismay as his father, Alhaji (Dr.) Umaru AbdulMutallab and the rest of his family embarked on a subtle PR ploy to cast themselves as unfortunate victims of their son’s indiscretion. Some, particularly in the popular press seem to have bought into their ploy: In a side bar, The New York Times proclaimed: “Parents of Suspect Offer Help”. From his London base, one Eddie Iroh in comments made in Nigeria’s Next newspaper was quick to praise Mutallab, the father for alerting Nigerian authorities and the US Embassy in Nigeria that his son had gone AWOL.

My reading and assessment of Alhaji (Dr.) Mutallab’s alert is that he simply dialed 911 to for help that could bring his son back to him. The family statement confirmed as much: “We were hopeful that they would find and return him home”, it reads in part. The US Embassy cared less and rightly so, to use their system to help a man who pays neither tax nor tight to sustain it to look for his son and bring him home. That US authorities simply inserted the lad’s name into the Terrorist Identities Datamart Environment, or TIDE, the extensive collection of data on more than 500,000 people, instead of the “far smaller no-fly list, which has only 4,000 names, or the so-called selectee list of 14,000 names of people who are subjected to more thorough searches at checkpoints” underscores the validity of my assessment even further. As for the Nigerian authorities, it’s premature at this point to even bother to infer why they wouldn’t bate an eyelid in response to Mutallab’s distress call. That fact will unfold clearly a little later in this piece....

COMMENTS ARE INTERESTING:

Thank you for this article. The father himself is a an Islamic fundamentalist but of different persuasions, the type you find in the northern Nigeria - the Feudo-Caliphal establishment in northern Nigeria whose only investment in the Nigerian project is a lazy and parasitic dependency on other people’s oil in the Niger Delta’. Of course he was conscious of implication of his estranged terrorist son to his shady business interests and romance with the global terrorists, funding his numerous business empire - the Islamic bank which he has been trying to float for a while now and his ownership of First Bank, among others. So the only option he had was to self report the lost son (talk of sacrificial lamb!) so as to shift attention from his own crime in case the boy got caught. I hope the CIA will beyond this ‘acting’ and unravel the father’s link with the world terrorist groups.

This is really rich. The only fair punishment is the death penalty. Otherwise it will be a total charade.
