GOP finds loophole in reconciliation ploy [Death of a thousand amendments to ObamaCare]
The Hill ^ | 2/3/10 | Alexander Bolton

As it turns out, Senate Democrats may not be able to force healthcare legislation through the chamber on a simple majority vote.

Republicans say they have found a loophole in the budget reconciliation process that could allow them to offer an indefinite number of amendments.

Though it has never been done, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) says he’s prepared to test the Senate’s stamina to block the Democrats from using the process to expedite changes to the healthcare bill.

Is there a loophole in the Constitution which allows a person born in, say, Kenya, to become President of the United States?

There does indeed seem to be a loophole that allows an interim appointed “senator” to continue voting even after his successor has been duly elected by the people.

You were saying ...

Is there a loophole in the Constitution which allows a person born in, say, Kenya, to become President of the United States?

There's a loophole that doesn't require a birth certificate to be shown... :-)

That's why I've been advocating that the states pass legislation making it mandatory in that state for a candidate to produce his birth certificate or else he cannot be on the ballot in that state. That would close up that loophole in the Constitution...

"Democrats could try to persuade Republican colleagues to back down and withdraw their amendments after several hours or days of voting. With a unified Democratic conference, Reid would need just one GOP senator to cut off the process."

Perhaps the other way is true also. Senators like Lincoln and Nelson in order to try to garner some goodwill back home in their states could vote with Republicans on this one so that having Snowe back down is a moot point.

Good for De Mint. The ‘leadership’ of McConnell and Boehner is pathetic at best and dangerous in most instances.

Let’s see more of DeMint and Pence
