Brown getting Kennedy's seat, but not his desk

BOSTON, (AP) - Republican Scott Brown may be taking over Democrat Edward Kennedy's Senate seat, but not his desk.
An aide says Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is claiming the mahogany desk on the Senate floor used by Kennedy for nearly 47 years. Until now, Kerry has been seated at the desk once used by Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, the late senator's assassinated brother.
Kennedy was partial to his own desk No. 83 because it had once been used by President John F. Kennedy. Kennedy even left it in the back row of the chamber when his seniority would have allowed him to move it down front because that was where his brother sat.
Following Senate tradition since about 1900, all senators inscribe their name on their desk's drawer.
Brown will be sworn in Thursday. Kennedy died in August of brain cancer.

Bet Brown doesn’t give a whit about Kennedy’s desk..He just wants to get to work.
Fine. Give it to Horseface. Out with the old, in with the new. It must have wreaked of booze anyways.
Brown would not want the “Swimmer’s” desk!
I wouldn’t want that desk. It’s seen years of hard use propping up Kennedy.
assassinated , brain cancer, its cursed anyway.
... but I hope Kerry enjoys it.
Kennedy left it in the back row because he often needed to get to the restroom quickly.
Years from now, soon I hope, memories of that desk will be “seared, seared into his memory.”
Honestly, I have a hard time telling which is pettier, him claiming the desk or it being reported in the media.
Can he get a new one? He could donate Kerry’s old one to a Vietnamese museum.
Oh for....Kerry. Understand this. Yu will never be JFK. Not if you use his initials and not by sitting in his old desk. This is just sad.
So Kerry gets the desk - who gets the roomful of chivas ?
Yeah, but Kerry does care. That is what is pathetic. I can only imagine he spent decades coveting that desk. The story didn’t make a note of anyone drawing straws over it so I doubt they all threw down on the Senate floor in a brawl for it and this guy wound up the winner.
Scott knows its the People's Desk.
Thanks for the link to that interesting site, C210N!
I’m glad that John Kerry gets to move up from Robert Kennedy’s desk to Teddy and John Kennedy’s desk. He must be thrilled to have reached the final stage of Camelot.
Thanks for the ping!
So if Kerry loses his senate seat, what will happen to that desk?
I'll bet that guys spends days dreaming, "Only one of 'em got to be President. I may yet, myself. But I'm the last to use their desks. I have their heirlooms. I'm the last dog to mark their posts!"
“Kennedy died in August...”
Kennedy died. Kennedy is dead. Kennedy dead. Kennedy, Ted, Dead. Dead Ted Kennedy. Dead. Dead. Dead. MMMmmmm. Feels so good to just roll it around your mouth. Kennedy. Dead. No longer alive. No longer in the Senate. No longer in America. No longer on earth. MMMmmm. MMMmmm. MMMmmm.
I noticed #90, where Jeff Sessions (R-AL) sits, was also once used by JFK, among a long line of notables.
“the desk once used by Sen. Robert F. Kennedy”
Where is the desk Bobby used when he was working with Sen Joe McCarthy slaying communists. Ted certainly would have been embarrassed to use that one.
Joined the choir invisible, he did.
Message to Kerry:
“You ain’t no John Kennedy OR Ted Kennedy!”
However...if it’s any consolation, your political tactics do resemble those of Joseph Kennedy, Sr.!
If you heard it, your dandruff would stand on end.
The Senate ought to auction historical desks to the highest bidder to raise money.
Will he get the unopened case of Chivas Regal that was under the desk?
The desk probably has aids, give to horse face.
I don’t think you realize that John Keery won a Purple Heart in Vietnam
Looks like J.FU.Kerry is the next lioness of the Senate to be disposed. Then pass the desk to Scmucky Schumer for his last hurrah and then to McCain or Graham, then to....and so on...soon we would have no need for Fat Teddy’s desk and could burn it in a memorial to the final death of the Progressive Party members, both D & R in the USA!
I wonder if it has a built-in refrigerator?
It.
Is.
Not.
Kennedy's.
Seat.
Anyone besides me believe in bad luck?
Is.
Not.
Kennedy's.
Seat.
Beg to differ; that seat was bought and paid for in 1952 by that old rumrunner, Joe Kennedy -- it just didn't stay bought, unlike most politicians.
Fascinating site! If you have ever wondered about Hillary’s ego and her sense of self-importance, check out desk # 87.
Given that the media/dems conspired to permanently steal the color blue, and pin the color red on republicans instead of how it used to be, perhaps they (ie: media/dems) will take some opportunity to switch to the starboard side?
Depends upon which way you look at left and right in the chamber. The custom of dividing the arrangement of Senate desks by party is almost as old as the parties themselves, Democrats traditionally sit on the presiding officer's right; Republicans on the left. Most Senate chamber maps are oriented from the back of the chamber, giving the impression of Republicans on the right, and Dems on the left.
Not mentioned in the article is that if Kerry getting the desk was that important, then why didn’t he take it before Seantor Kirk got it?
The description you paint about point of reference furthur demonstrates that from the public perspective, the dems are leftists, even if the currently presiding officer, Harry’s Reed (sic), imagines them to the right.
No telling what they’ll find in that desk’s drawers!
That’s an excellent question. I guess it goes to the senior senator, which would then be Brown (Please, Dear God.). The piece doesn’t say what happens to the desk Lurch has been occupying, but it sounds like it would go to Brown.
Yeah, I wonder how many people know that John F’n Kerry was in Viet Nam.
Yes,,but I can only wonder what it will be for the Dear Leader. I wonder if his own democrats are going to turn on him and demand impeachment to save their party? Would that be a hoot.
It would. Likes pets saved from a flood, when the food runs out, they turn on their owners.
Good one!
He ought to have his office swept for listening devices
