Newly crowned Miss America Caressa Cameron has it allall the traits that researchers say make people attractive. Facial symmetry? Check. Youthfulness? Check. Svelte figure? Check. "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," says Dr. Gordon Patzer, author of Looks: Why They Matter More Than You Ever Imagined. "But the beholders all agree."
So with the swimsuits and evening gowns neatly folded, and Mario Lopez back to his day job, The Daily Beast set its lens on figuring out where the rest of the beautiful people are. Specifically, which states have the highest percentage of extremely attractive people, as well as run-of-the-mill hunks and beauties.
Here's how we calculated the ultimate home state bragging rights. First, we determined who had the most stunners-per-capita (allowing Connecticut and California an equal playing field), tallying the hometowns of more than 300 male and female fashion models, plus 125 men mentioned in 10 years' worth of People's "Sexiest Man Alive" issues. Then, we accounted for the results of the Miss America and Miss USA pageants for the past decade. Finally, in order to measure general attractiveness, we factored in health and fitness data for each state from 2006-2008, ranked by the Trust for America's Health. Each of those three criteriamodels, pageant winners, fitnesswas weighed equally, with any ties broken by which state performed best in the latter category.

I vote TEXAS
Texas women.
One of life’s disappoints for me was having to learn to accept California girls.
The American ideal of womanly beauty continues its tasteless decline.
These ratings are worthless.
It's a general rule that the prettier girls are south and west of Virginia, while the not-so-pretty girls are north and east. One only has to examine College Prowler rankings to see that there are plenty of pretty girls at schools like Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Clemson, and Georgia relative to their counterpart schools in New England.
I can’t trust your taste, with ya being all hot and bothered over Petunia and all.
I think I may be a little insulted by this ranking.
Doesn’t Texas win most of the contests? The women there are absolutely beautiful and they’re trained and groomed like crazy for the crowns. (Actually, though, I prefer the Texas men. Yum.)
Bah! Southern women, outside of Texas!
Sigh - I got a note from the judges saying “Your state would do better if you’d only move out.” I don’t know how to take that...
I've spent a LOT of time on the road for work, in all of the lower 48, and Texas wins. Easily. I liked Texas women so much, I married one and brought her to SD.
So far, from my experience.
Texas wins.
If Spain was a state, they would be a close second.
DEE CEE? They’re insane. I live here, I have eyes, and I don’t see very many beautiful women. Certainly not like California, Texas, Virginia, North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida.
DC? First an article on FR saying it takes greater smarts to work for the federal gov’t than it does to work in the private sector and then this. How many fulltime propagandists are the feds employing. Must be a lot.
Go with Colorado. Fittest state in the US and I love those snow bunnies ;-]
DC? Helen Thomas, Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama...’nuff said.
This article is B.S. (Baloney Sandwich). Texas women are the most beautiful women in the world.
I’m shocked to be the first to say:
This thread is useless without pictures!
DC? You gotta be kidding me? Somebody once said Washington politics was Hollywood for ugly people.
I vote for Texas.
Blah, there is no such thing as most beautiful state women. All our states put out beautiful women.
