The question of whether Congress should repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy and allow openly gay soldiers to serve likely will be a divisive issue in the fall elections, but not in the 2nd Congressional District.
Incumbent Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao, R-New Orleans, and his expected Democratic challengers state Reps. Cedric Richmond and Juan LaFonta expressed support Wednesday for President Barack Obama's call to change the policy, a move that also has been endorsed by top military officials.
"When the military hierarchy supports it, I defer to the people who do it for a living and have the biggest vested interest," Richmond said. "And ultimately, it's the right thing to do."
LaFonta said, "Repealing legislation such as 'don't ask, don't tell' means finally achieving equality for the brave men and women in uniform who risk their lives to protect our great country, and I support a full repeal of 'don't ask, don't tell.'"
Clayton Hall, Cao's chief of staff, said the freshman Republican agrees it's time to end the policy, begun during the Clinton administration, of not asking military personnel about their sexual preferences, but continuing to bar and discharge openly gay soldiers.

Poor Cao, you think that Brown stole a seat, this guy did an even bigger upset, it would be something if he held on for the next election.
No true republican, much less one that claims conservative values, would agree with anything Dumbama has to say.
Then why does he not defer to the individual soldiers, sailors and Marines? They have a far larger "vested interest" than the military hierarchy!

Cao acts Democrat in a heavily Democratic district. Come November, voters there may just want to send a “real deal” like Richmond or LaFonta to Washington and bring the RINO home.
He’s reflecting his district and the people who elected him. People can disagree with him, but he’s doing what his district wants, which is what people on this board have been saying their representatives and senators should do.
You have a point. Being in their cozy ivory towers, the top military brass aren’t the ones out there in barracks or ships (not to mention combat areas).
Look closely when they speak and you will see the strings of the puppet masters!

Cao's statement on this may have less to do with the makeup of his congressional district than it does with the fact that he was a Jesuit seminarian for years. It's straight out of that order's "social justice" hymnal.
The "LGBT" community in New Orleans is dwarfed by the blacks (for whom the 2nd Congressional District was created, back in '65). Had those voters (and their ACORN bus drivers) not been distracted by the Obama victory-fest in early December of 2008, Cao would've lost big.
Evidently he is a rino, because I think that in a black district he could have tried to carve a social conservative niche by being against this, but this (below)is what I meant by his short life expectancy in the district.

No, we’ve been saying Republicans should represent Republicanism. If you elect a Republican, you should expect to actually get what you voted for.

He probably won because people voted for ‘anybody but Jefferson.’

Has anyone noticed when you speak out against the perversion of homosexuality the homosexuals call you a closeted homosexual? So if you are a closeted homosexual how can you be homophobic?
This is just another shining example of the twisted logic perverted homosexuals use to defend their perverted lifestyle choice.
The whole purpose of this is lawsuits. Lots and lots of lawsuits:
To force military mental health services to engage in gay relationship counseling.
To force the recogntition of the queer coupledom arrangement known as “gay marriage.”
To insist on spousal benefits for boyfriends’ boyfriends.
To create conflicts in the military chaplaincy.
To establish a “right” to military-funded “sex-reassignment” surgery and other accommodations to mental disorders.
To drum out servicemembers who can’t stomach open sodomy in their living, sleeping and recreational areas.
Every one of these things will be run up the flagpole; and they’ll sue whoever doesn’t salute.
